How can I Shorten the Description tag to 160 characters, so its wont be cut off on search result pages.

I Currently use the "Read more" function, in the editor. To select what should be in the intro text. And sometimes its more than 160 characters. How can i then make sure that I have a decent Description for the search engines, as well as a good leading text in the blog listings on my page?
Hey Jostein,

I am sorry that delay of this reply,

I have a little bit lost here, do you referring by the blog page’s meta description ?

if yes, you can set from backend > Easyblog > SEO > edit the blog title and set the meta description.

If no, perhaps you can provide us some screenshot regarding this and Joomla backend/FTP access so we can better have a look?

Hello,

I think this needs to be in the futures request.

First of you need to change the default values in Maximum Characters For Meta Description from 250 to 160.
In /administrator/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=settings&layout=seo
Reason is simple: Google and other sites truncate everything over 160, so its pointless to have more than that.

The other thing that needs to be implemented are basically some sort of function, that allows you to generate a meta description, from the content between the start of the page, and till the "read more button" Were you can set a "anchor" that basically tells easyblog. "Hey, stop fetching more text, You have plenty of info for the meta description.

I will toss you an example.

Tomatoes is red, oranges are blue. No they are not blue they are orange! I like blue oranges.

Were the bold text is what ends up in the Meta Description, the bold and italic text is what ends up before the read more button. and the entire text is the blog post. Were you'r placing an function infront of No they are not blue they are orange! that tells easyblog that it wont collect more data for the Meta description.

This is usefull when you are writing content, that you feel needs a longer description on your site than the 160 words that you can have on google. and/or you dont needs 160 words for the meta description.

It would make editing more streamline.
