Social sharing a post done in an EasySocial Group (when displayed in a Single Group Listing menu item) has an important issues: The return URL doesn’t lead back to the page it was shared from. It returns the person back to the /stream/item/item#?

For example, a post in
http://decopatio.ca/testgroup

Leads back to
http://decopatio.ca/mondecopatio-login/journal/element/554
When the user in Facebook clicks on the link ...

Please advise
Danny
Hey Danny,
The behavior that you described above is the default behavior when someone click on the shared item in social media so there isn't anything out of the ordinary here.
The way this works is that when you click the social share button from the EasySocial stream, Facebook will capture the link which you press to send to your Facebook. In other words, when the user click the link from your Facebook, it will go to EasySocial stream first because that link is what Facebook captured.. Hope this clarifies your question.

OK I see

One problem I have with this is that the return page isn't an actual menu item which in turn means It's a challenge to format (apply CSS and control which modules will appear).

Hm, It actually return correct page which it go to the single stream page when you click from Facebook.

For example :
1. Share this link from this group http://decopatio.ca/testgroup (last stream - screenshot : http://take.ms/SlYnP )
2. Click the link from Facebook (screenshot : http://screencast.com/t/WwqRBBnU5lBI )
3. It will redirect to single stream page which is http://decopatio.ca/mondecopatio-login/journal/element/560

Hi

Thanks for your reply

This is exactly my point: You send off the shared content (to Facebook for example) from "http://decopatio.ca/testgroup" but anyone returning to is from that share comes back to "http://decopatio.ca/mondecopatio-login/journal/element/560" which isn't the same menu item, it's not even a menu item so not only is the visitor getting routed to NOT the original content, he/she is routed to a page that's not really formated per se (modules, CSS ...)

Hey Danny,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply,

By default, all the single stream item will route to Easysocial dashboard menu item which is `mondecopatio-login` as you set this as Easysocial dashboard menu type.

Currently that was not possible to route to use group menu alias for single stream item.

Meh, to be honest, that doesn't sounds right to us.
It would at least be practical to add a default return menu item ID parameter in each group so the admin could override this.

Hey Danny,

When you share a stream item, regardless of where you are, we must explicitly use an URL that describes about the object, otherwise it wouldn't look correct when you share the item on Facebook.

Why? If you share a stream item on Facebook and pass the link of the group to Facebook, the preview of the link would be about the group and not about the stream. If you share multiple stream items, then your Facebook timeline would look weird as you would be sharing the group's link several times.

As for your second issue as to why it is not using the correct item id associated, is because the stream items are associated with the dashboard menu layout. We will see if we can have a separated menu id for this in the future version of EasySocial
