Hi,

I recently shared an old article on my profile from the New York Times and Easysocial selected the website's logo instead of the article's cover photo as the post's cover photo. I shared the same article on Facebook to test, and Facebook chose the correct cover photo.

Can you explain why this happens and is there a way to fix it?

Alternatively, is there an option to allow posters to select from different images in the article or could this be developed?

Cheers, David
Hey David,

I see your point here from a regular user's perspective. I will log this in our internal tracker so we can think of the best way to go about and address this.

Hi David,

Do you mean when sharing the page link in EasySocial, the image chosen does not display when the stream is created(http://take.ms/makMx)?

Thanks Raymond, didn’t realise this was an option. I may have disabled this through css or maybe an ES setting. Is that possible, there a setting to disable this?

Hey David,

I'm not sure what option you are referring to. What would you like to disable?

No, just wondering if I’ve disabled an option that shows the “select image” module. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen this.

May have disabled it through css though, will check later when I get to my computer.

Hey David,

Do you mean the image selection here? http://take.ms/6k7M1

When you enter the link into the 'Link' story form, the system will crawl the page to crawl its contents(http://take.ms/0Xr1X).

Looks like its showing fine in your site.

Thanks Raymond,

Just tried to repost and the image selector is showing. However, when I click the first image (the colourful image with the birds and forest) the component posts the NYT logo. Not sure what is going on here.

Cheers, David

Hey David,

Actually it is not the logo that is being displayed but the whole block of html embed codes(http://take.ms/pwdpC). The reason this is showing is because that page contains embed codes(check their page source: http://take.ms/kjfXlt).

The reason Facebook shows the proper opengraph image but not in EasySocial is because Facebook does not show the embed codes even if the original page contains it, whereas ES shows embed codes first only if the page contains it.

The reason we show embedded codes in link sharing is so that certain pages with embedded iframe can show(difference between ES and FB).

With that said, it's possible to prevent ES from using embed codes in link sharing by template overriding theme files. Let me know if you want to do so.

Thanks Raymond,

Not exactly sure how turning off the embed codes would affect links to other pages.

I feel that this would seem like an error to the average user (as it does to me), because if someone shares a link and they're given the option of choosing an image, and they choose an image that then fails to appear, I'd imagine they would assume this is a bug.

Can you set this function so that it allows iframes for specific popular websites and not others? Eg. Youtube, vimeo etc

Otherwise, can you set this as an option that Admins can turn on/off?
