sh404sef Compatibility

Hello,

I purchased the professional edition of EasyDiscuss a few days ago. My Joomla site has sh404sef installed for SEF URL management. Does ED integrate with sh404sef? sh404sef seems to be adding 'discuss' at the beginning of every URL (ex. /discuss/tags instead of /tags). I've tried to get rid of it but I can't figure out how. Beyond that, if sh404sef is completely disabled and I'm just using Joomla's built in SEF URL functionality, the Home page icon in the toolbar directs to http://myurl/index instead of http://myurl/. This generates a 404 error.

Please let me know the best practice for handling this situation. I really don't have a preference one way or the other as to which program handles the URLs so long as it keeps them short, easy to understand, and has a consistent syntax.

Thought I'd add that my preference would be to use sh404sef. That'd give me more flexibility for titles, metadata, etc.

Hello Mel,

So sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Actually this is because your menu does not have have a Frontpage Layout. I would suggest that you either change your Homepage menu type to EasyDiscuss Frontpage layout. or create a menu item with the EasyDiscuss Frontpage layout menu type. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I changed the home page menu item to ED Front Page Layout. That seemed to fix the problem with the home page icon in the toolbar. It now directs to http://myurl.com instead of http://myurl,com/index. It does still have 'discuss' in the URL though. Is there a way I can get rid of that in sh404sef? Under normal operation without sh404sef, the URL would be http://myurl.com/tags, for example. With sh404sef, it is http://myurl.com/discuss/tags. Having 'discuss' in the URL for my purposes really isn't necessary.

Also, if you completely disable sh404sef and use Joomla's built in SEF URL systems, the toolbar home page icon still directs to http://myurl.com/index instead of http://myurl.com/. This causes a 404 error. Is there a way to fix that?

Hello Mel,

Sorry for the late reply. the discuss because your menu item alias is discuss. You can't really remove this as Joomla need to know which menu item to use. Thanks!
