Hi there.

I run a private message board, but I really want to send out emails on a monthly basis by connecting Mailchimp to the message board's RSS feed. Currently this is not working because of the fact that Mailchimp can't read the RSS feed...
Is there a way to give certain user groups ("Public" in this case) the ability to view just the RSS feed (and preferably only the titles and not post content), but not the posts etc?
You will need to hack the file in /components/com_easydiscuss/views/index/view.feed.php so that the content is hidden

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the quick response! But that only solves one part of my problem... I run a private message board - only registered members with a certain access level can access the discussions and the discussion forum is also on a private menu link... In other words, Mailchimp cannot read the feed...
Is there a way to make the feed public? It would be great if there was an option on the permissions screen (in category settings) to allow certain groups to access the RSS feed..

I would really appreciate it if you could help me - I really need a way to let people know about the discussions taking place.. Email notifications are not an option as the notification for new topics is sent to ALL users, but I only want the users who has access to the forum to see the topics...

Kind Regards
Hendre

Hello Hendre,

If you have configured the site menu to be "registered", Joomla would then redirect all requests to a login page. What you can try, is to use the URL http://yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_easydiscuss&view=index&format=feed&type=rss and see if that works for mailchimp?

Hi Mark, thanks, that link will help..

But as explained earlier - the category permissions in EasyDiscuss is also set in such a way that the public cannot view any thing in the message board - also resulting in an empty RSS field...
Is there a way to override these permissions for the RSS field?
