Second Membership being created

EXAMPLE OF PROBLEM:

1) User gets expiration email notification 12 days before expiration.
2) User renews membership.
3) There are two memberships now, one expires in a year and another expires in 11 days.

Having two memberships is confusing. Is this user-error or do I need to adjust the configuration in some way?
Hey Anthony,

I've checked your site and found 2 same subscription for user. But these subscriptions are subscribed separately by user, not the renewal of existing subscription. Because when user renew the subscription the existing subscription will get updated, no new subscription will be created for the user.

Can you please confirm that user did the latest payment on existing subscription renewal or subscribed the plan again ?
