I have 2 pages used on my website that I use Easyblog for. Both pages are separate Easyblog categories (they are set up as separate categories in the main menu). if it helps have a look at http://www.capitalforextraining.com. 1st category is 'trade of the day' on the main menu and 2nd is 'forex talk' in the main menu.

When I set up my rss feed importer where I import feeds from various sites, in the settings I have set up that rss feeds only get imported to category 2 (forex talk). I have also activated automatic post on my linked in and twitter pages. However, when the imported posts are automatically 'posted' on Linkedin and Twitter the link to the post takes me to the 1st category (trade of the day). How can this be if I specifically set it up so that the feeds are posted in category 2? The confusing part is, if I don't use Linkedin or Twitter, the posts can only be seen on the correct categories. Eg. if I simply go to my site all the posts are in the right place.

As it stands I have duplicate content i.e. rss feed posts in both categories (as the links to posts on Linkedin and Twitter show) but I only want them to display in the 2nd category.

Can you please help?
Hello Dragan,

Sorry for the late reply. I suspect your issue is not because the feeds are importing to the wrong category but the SEO links are formed incorrectly. Please go to your backend -> EasyBlog -> Settings -> SEO -> Advanced Settings and set the routing behavior to Default. This will affect your new Twitter links. The old Twitter posts links will remain the same. If you need any further help please send us your backend and FTP Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Hi there.

Thanks for your input that has not solved the problem unfortunately.

I posted a new article this morning in category 2 (Forex Talk). The automatic posting feature obviously posted the article on my Linkedin and Twitter pages but the Twitter URL (for example) I get for the post titled 'EUR/USD technical analysis 11/11', is this:

http://www.capitalforextraining.com/trade-of-the-day/entry/eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11#! ***the 'trade-of-the-day' part in the URL is the issue. It seems that, even though the article is in category 2 (Forex Talk) where I have originally posted it, Easyblog generates the same post in category 1 (trade of the day) and that is the link that it generates through autoposting on my Twitter and Linkedin pages, so I still have duplicate content. The URL should be - http://www.capitalforextraining.com/forex-talk/entry/eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11 i.e. /forex-talk should be in the middle of the URL.

The strange thing is, when I click the 'trade of the day' menu link on my website (category 1) the article does not show up there. But, if I click into Forex talk (Category 2) in the main menu on the website the post is there (in the right place) - the Forex talk area/menu, but when I click onto the title to read it in its own URL the URL I get is the incorrect one I posted above - http://www.capitalforextraining.com/trade-of-the-day/entry/eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11#! i.e. it includes the 'trade-of-the-day/' part.

Can you let me know how I can solve this?

Thanks

Hello Dragan,

After setting route to Default please set 'category' to '1' and 'ignore this item' to 'no' in backend -> EasyBlog -> Settings -> SEO -> Advanced Settings
screenshot --> http://screencast.com/t/bLi9vj7cdtR

If this problem still persist we may need you backend access and FTP access so we could check on this issue better.

Thanks:)

Hi there Khairul,

To test this I deleted the article and re-posted it with the settings you mentioned. The article is titled - EUR/USD technical analysis 11/11.

Ok, so the autopost links created in twitter and linkedin are now correct and when I click the blog post title, the URL is correct i.e. the article is displayed in the 'Forex Talk' (category 2) section of the website. This is fantastic and exactly what I need.

However, the page where the same post was created in category 1 before still exists under the 'Trade of the day' section, if you put this URL in - http://www.capitalforextraining.com/trade-of-the-day/entry/eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11#!

So, does this mean that even though the post is in the right place now, that category 1 (Trade of the day) still creates a URL for it, even though it is ignored on the website? If the answer to this is yes then how do I ensure that posts for category 2 (forex talk) only create pages for that category, and NOT category 1 (trade of the day)?

P.S. I have no problem sending you log in details to have a look.

Hello Dragan,

Sorry for the late reply. If you have the canonical links for entries options on in backend -> EasyBlog -> Settings -> SEO -> General then Google will not index the duplicate pages. Also the links are not created anywhere but if you know the "format" you can actually as you did enter the link manually in the browser to navigate via the "wrong" URL.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Hi,

Canonical links are on...I don't understand your last sentence "Also the links are not created anywhere but if you know the "format" you can actually as you did enter the link manually in the browser to navigate via the "wrong" URL." Can you explain with a bit more detail please?

Thanks

Hello Dragan,

Sorry for the late reply. What I meant is if you understand the way Joomla router builds links then yes you can manually entry the links and Joomla will interpret it and direct you to the page. In your case for example

http://www.capitalforextraining.com/trade-of-the-day/entry/eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11#

"trade-of-the-day" is the name of your category and also the name of your menu item. In the link above the "trade-of-the-day" here actually is the menu item alias. From this link joomla router will get the information to direcrt the page as

1. Menu item -> trade-of-the-day
2. view -> entry
3. blog id -> eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11#

using the information above it will direct you to the "eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11#" post but it will under the "trade-of-the-day" menu item. In all your issue is not actually "posting to the wrong category" but rather "posting to the wrong menu item" I hope this clears thing up.

Thanks!

Thanks Adelene,

Ok, so the problem is that the item is being posted to the wrong menu item. The annoying part is that when I post in 'trade of the day' menu/category Easyblog doesn't create another url with 'forex-talk' in it but when I create a post in 'Forex talk' Easy blog creates another URL with 'trade-of-the-day' in it. So, what do I need to do (even if it means re-building the blog) so that posts created are within their own menus/categories only please?

Thanks

Hi there,

The twitter and LinkedIn generated links work fine now. They're not the problem. I just want to make sure that anything I post in Forex talk doesn't create a URL for 'trade of the day' menu also as I described in the previous questions in here.

Did you change anything in the SEO settings by the way?

Thanks

Hello Dragan,

Sorry for the late reply. I did not change the SEO settings. And no, the link won't be created anywhere for anyone to click it.

Thanks!

Hi,

So, how do I delete this link then - http://www.capitalforextraining.com/trade-of-the-day/entry/eur-usd-technical-analysis-11-11#

I't in the wrong menu (trade of the day) even though I posted it in Forex talk.

Thanks

Hi Adelene,

The link was created in my Twitter and Linkedin by automated posting RSS feed, before you solved the problem when articles were posted in the wrong menu. Even though we solved that, the page still exists, so how do I delete it? If I delete the article from my 'blog posts' then it will delete it form 'Forex talk' which is not what I want.

Thanks

Hello Dragan,

Sorry for the late reply as it's the weekends. You can't "delete" a URL as it isn't saved anywhere. As i have explained before, the URLs are generated on the fly and also interpreted on the fly. The "wrong" link you have is wrong in the sense that it is pointing to a menu item not of your choice. But it isn't actually wrong in the sense where Joomla has no way to interpret it. So it is a valid link and Joomla can still make sense of the link and point you to the correct article (just in the wrong menu item). I really hope you can understand this. What you can do now is delete the Twitter and LinkedIn posts that has the wrong URLs so that your users won't be able to access this URL.

Thanks!

Yea I understand that but Google will interpret it as double content no matter if links are created on the fly. As far as Google is concerned there are two pages with the same article on it. It is the duplicate content in Google's eyes that I am concerned with.

Thanks

Hello Dragan,

Sorry for the late reply. Google will only index the links if it is there to be index. If there is no physical link (of the wrong URL) anywhere on your site or in Twitter then this link won't be indexed.

An alternative way, just to be sure is using the canonical links. Please go to backend -> EasyBlog -> Settings -> SEO -> General. Here turn on the canonical links. Hope this helps.

Thanks!
