There is no group selection in the registration at this point of time. Where only site admin can set default group for that specific profile type that the user joined, as example: http://take.ms/Nz6rA

Perhaps, you can create a new ticket under feature request category regarding this. So that our developer can keep track the feature that can be implemented in the future release

Good idea so you can automatically add certain groups, pages, events,... for certain profile type(s) automatically joined at signed up reg process.

This is indeed a great feature I am not sure if they already make a feature ticket regarding this.
