Having just completed the excellent migration process from my previous forum component on a test domain before repeating it on my live site - I'm just a bit concerned that the difference between easydiscuss urls and kunena urls is going to result in a huge amount of pages not found 404 errors - or am I missing something?

I don't want to retain Kunena as that will cause much confusion on my site so how are previous urls redirected please?

Thanks
Hello Peter,

How does the old url looks like versus the new url? If the permalinks are the same for the post, you could just do a simple 301 redirect in your htaccess

Hi Mark, thank you.

An example of an old url after the domain name is

/forum/34-spain-touring/5048-spinners-brief-encounter-with-the-spanish-civil-war-part-3

Whereas the new url is

/forums/72-16-travel/8-18-continental-touring/3-34-spain-touring/7986-spinners-brief-encounter-with-the-spanish-civil-war-part-3

I've been looking at the settings a lot more since my original post and can see that there are various 'search engine' settings so am wondering whether I should have them set differently before migrating?

Hello Peter,

Hm, this is tricky because the id's are actually not matching and there isn't a simple way of redirecting them This would be my best suggestion,

1. Your new forums, try to use a different alias. Perhaps just /forum/ instead of /forums/

2. Any requests made to /forums/xxxx , do a 301 redirect to /forum/

This way, you wouldn't get much on 404 pages.

OK thanks again. I have managed to lose the 's' on 'forums' so the new alias is 'forum'

But not sure that'll help with your suggestion in mind....

When I carry this process of migration on my 'live' site, is it possible to set it up so this doesn't happen?

Ah sorry i must have read it wrongly. The previous structure is correct already. Now, you just need to do a 310 redirect from /forum/*** to /forums/

In short, this is how it should be done,

1. Use /forums/ for your new forum with easydiscuss
2. Redirect all /forum/*** to /forums/
