Hello, I am begining to re arrange my blog menu items. I will be moving parent and child items around. I want to be sure as long as I only "unpublish" the old menu items that they are still accessible via backlinks. I will not DELETE the menu items in my backend. Is there a best practice for this/ Thanks!
Hi there,

Correct me if i am wrong. From what i understand, you doesn't want to shown those menu item you created on your frontend but still can be accessible by typing those or got to those URL manually?

If yes, i would recommend you to create a 'Hidden' main menu item. Then put all those 'old menu items' into 'Hidden' main menu. It will be accessible as long as you didn't unpublished them.

Please advice.

Yes, that is exactly right! So, how can I simple change my published menu item to "hidden"? Maybe you can help? I can give backend access?

Currently, I want "Blogs" and all sub menu items "iphone" "mac x" "reviews" "chicago resturaunt menus" to be hidden from my frontend but I want still browsable. As you can see, I have already published the new menu items for these on my front end.

My site: becomethesolution.com

I must be careful, currently I have Response code nuke 410 set throughout my site so if I make error I don't want Google de-indexing me. Thank you

Hi there,

It seems that i cant access your backend as it kept redirect me to your frontend.

By the way, you can go to your Backend>Menu then create a new menu item as shown https://screencast.com/t/sGcCxTkcIv name 'hidden' a shown https://screencast.com/t/3tUTMTiF.
Then, move all your menu item into 'Hidden menu" as shown https://screencast.com/t/e1LStGtOC.

Please give it a try and see how it goes

Hi, I would not like to create a new menu item though. Can't I just change the menu items I listed above to "hidden"? If not possible, I will look into alternative solution. I would much rather not create a new menu item

Please try accessing backend now. Please be mindful, if someone does access the menu item you hide and is not renderable google will nuke drop it (410) and i will get de-indexed immediately

Hello Urzh,

You don't really need to unpublish or delete any menu items on your site if all you want to do is to make them hidden. I have created a "Hidden Menu" on your site, and all you need to do now is to move those menu items you want hidden from your site into this Hidden Menu.

As long as you do not create a menu module which uses this Hidden Menu, you are good to go

Ah, I see now. So I was going to move "Blogs" to hidden menu item which will also move all child menu items attached. Just do that and I should be good, correct?

Yep, that is correct. By the way, why do you want to hide the menu eh?

Hello, as you can see I want the new menu items as parent items which I have published. I no longer want "blogs" and the so forth. So, I want those to be still accessible because of all the backlinks. Make any sense?

Ah I see. I get what you mean now. By the way, good job with your site design! It has a very simplistic look!
