I have noticed two features that are not working on the entry (single blog) view. I use a template override and I am wondering if that is the issue? The two problems I have noticed are:

  1. users can no longer rate each post, but the number of ratings (from before this became an issue) are still shown. I have ratings enabled
  2. I have enabled the reading progress bar but this does not display

I should clarify that I created my override at the end of 2016. At that time the instructions had me copy the files I wanted to override and place them in my templates > html > com_easyblog file structure. While browsing your help docs I came across this article and it seems the process may have changed. Should I change the method in which I have setup my override?

Well, scratch that. I tested the new method of template overriding and it recognized the files as modified and wouldn't let me edit them. I presume this means that the override method is still the same you just brought the process into EasyBlog to make it easier.

So, that being said, what is the recommended solution to fix the missing ratings and progress bar? I had thought it was because my template was out of date but maybe that isn't the case...?

Hi Brandon,

One way you can use to test whether the issue is coming from the template override is by renaming the file in that location. Once you renamed the template override file, the system will not be able to detect it and would use back the default file.

If the issue does not occur while the system uses the default file, then you would have to take a look at the template override file and compare it with the default file to see what's wrong.

Hm. The new method to edit overrides from the themes section should allow you to edit your existing customization. If you can provide me the access to the backend, I can help you check why the system does not allow you to edit.

I will definitely try your recommendation to test if it is my override or not. That's a good idea.

Regarding the ability to edit my override file, I would love to give you back end access but our development team has that on lockdown. For security reasons we cannot even use FTP. I will investigate further tomorrow, and see if I can identify the problem. In your experience have you identified the most common reasons why this might occur? That might help me better focus on the areas that are most likely to be causing the problem.

Alright Brandon.

To be honest, I am not sure what you meant when you mentioned that the system does not allow you to edit.

Can you provide me a screenshot of the issue('not allowed' error message/missing editor etc) so I can identify this better?

Well, I just logged in from home and the file edit screen does display now. Now that I have that figured out I will investigate to see if the override is causing my problem.

Thank you for your help.

I took your advice and renamed the override file to test the issue. When my override file was no longer used to render the blog the rating stars and progress bar did work as expected.

Hey Brandon,

That's great. Thanks for updating us and glad to know that the issue is resolved by renaming the override file.
