Hi,

ED4 has a long-running problem that existed in ED3. When users access a link that is part of category with permissions set to registered users only (view discussions, replies etc), then they will get a system error page with 404 error. This is a very undesirable result. The page should redirect to login and after login, redirect to the requested discussion - not the index of the forum - actually just like this support forum works! If the user logs in and and doesn't have permission, then they should get a system alert within ED that says they don't have permission.

Please consider changing this as it is a major shortcoming.
I was about to post the same request.

In earlier versions of EasyDiscuss, we did have this in place but it looks like quite a number of users complaint about this.

If the page does not display a 404 error, the user will be able to guess that the content is not visible but they just can't access it. This is why we have added this into one of the 3.x releases I believe.

Thanks Mark,

I can't understand how people would complain about this. It is the identical behaviour to Joomla articles that are accessed without proper credentials.

I did have a little hack for this in ED3 but there was no redirection parameter to the requested discussion; it would simply redirect to the index of the forum after login. However, it would be great if this functioned like other Joomla articles to keep the behavior consistent - with login prompt and return URL to the requested discussion. And I would be happy to debate with anyone that complained why they are incorrect

I will discuss with the team about this and see if we can quickly come up with a work around for the next release
