Actually I'm not really familiar with that app but for EasySocial, we have a url shortener app here which basically shortens the profile's url to something like site.com/mike instead of the original site.com/community/23-mike.

The difference between the app and the permalink is that you have the option to remove the user's id from the url by configuring the plugin setting(http://take.ms/fNKUd) and also shortening it.
