Dear Support,

I found it great that you guys have acknowledged the important of profile types and implemented from phase1, but how do you think it will really benefit the user experience in the long run ? for example if we have a website for pets where owners of pets exchange experiences .. .. where profile types are
1- dog owners
2- cat owners
is profile type 1 capable of filtering the stream to only see activities generated by the profile type he belongs to ?
we need to see how the profile type idea can be beneficial in the long run and how it allows us to really give each profile type a customized experience in our website as in the above example, i would care less of what other users are doing if they don't belong to the same interest or group im in

btw when we decide to move from jomsocial to easysocial we have the concern of what is going to happen for our profile types in JSTP (joomlaxi) as i believe there is no migrator for it yet.?
Hello Muhanad,

We have greater ideas for profile types In EasySocial 1.2, we are running some tests on group categories and with the same idea, we'll apply it on the profile systems I can't really disclose this now, but I do think that the new method that we are applying makes more sense than just stream filtering by profile types.

As for JSPT, I am not too sure what it actually does but why would you want to have JSPT for EasySocial?

Hi Mark,

I'm glad you guys are planning something for profile types and thinking of real use of them. I'm really glad to know that .. When the right time comes, please share with us your plans so maybe we can be any help.

Regarding JSTP I don't want it, im just curious of how to apply specific easysocial profile type to existing members who belong to specific joomla group

Hello Muhanad,

Wait for the upcoming blog post about the groups feature that we have been working on It will blow your mind off. Currently you can associate Joomla user groups to a profile in the site. This also means that if the user registers under profile A, they will be assigned to specific Joomla user groups.

Hello Mark,

First of all, hats off for the groups, the look really nice.

Now seeing the blog post, i can't really understand the relationship, maybe because you didn't mention the grouping part.

Ive been thinking hard on how a website owner can really use the profile types to his/her advantage since when having different profiles, then you have different target audience.

Its a bit tricky on how to customize/show only related content to those different groups of people who belong to different profiles

i thought maybe we can use the tag/hashtag where if the user belong to profile A a hashtag will be created by default for all his activity stream items .. so people who would like to get all activities from hashtag A will have the option but not sure if this is the right approach. Hashtags organize the timeline but so do profiles

if im a student from University A (profile A) i would care less what students who belong to profile B are doing
same might go to discussions and blogs ..

so the question is how can we really customize and filter those content according to profiles.

Regards,

Hello Muhanad,

Right now you can't really do this yet but similar like the group categories, you'll have a profile type page which only displays streams and other related items from a particular user profile. We are running a test on the group category first before applying it on everything

Hi Mark,

Hmm i will be waiting for sure although im not really sure if this is the right approach. this way we are giving the users two ways to filter the stream items .. one by hashtags and one by profile .. hmmm might be a good idea or might be confusing.

Not sure if I get you here. The idea is actually to allow users to see stream items by specific profile types, am I correct? If a profile type has it's own page of it's own, users can see all stream items from a specific profile and has the ability to join / switch their profile accordingly in the future
