Hi guys, i am trying to figure out a scenario for our users and need your input on this to save me some time searching around. Let me know if what i want to achieve can be done in easysocial and how.

I have a "default" profile type for our users. All registered accounts are assigned to this default profile type.
2. I want to define another profile type that is basically the same as the "default" one but contains few extra profile fields

Is there any way i can allow our users to "switch" to the "upgraded" profile type ?

Basically, allow them in their account settings to choose a profile type and if they choose the "upgraded" profile type, automatically they will have acces to the extra fields

From my understanding profile types are "standalone" in such way that if the user will choose another profile type he will loose the previous fields records, even if the new profile type they choose contains these fields + few extra.

Long story short, i want to define just some "extra" fields in different profile type and let the user to "activate" those fields in their profile by choosing the "upgraded" profile type.
Hello Mist,

Unfortunately right now users cannot just "switch" from a profile to another profile. This could only be done on the back end right now. We do have plans in the future (along with the subscription plan) where users could switch from profile to another profile

Cool, that would be a great feature.
Also it would be great if this switch from a profile type to another will occur without the loss of data.

Think about a scenario where we have a "basic" profile (let's call it "Regular User") with some common basic fields ... and we want to allow another profile type, let's say "Power User" with just few extra fields.

If the user will switch from "Regular User" profile type to "Power User" profile type, he will be granted just the few extra fields in his profile, keeping the "already filled "basic" fields informations.

Hello Mist,

Yep, in fact if you manually switch the user's profile, at the back end, most of their data is retained but not everything though because there are times where certain fields don't exist across both profiles.

I'm also looking for this functionality! :two cents: I suppose we might have to wait until subscriptions are included before users can "upgrade" themselves to another profile. After events, this is the big feature I am eagerly anticipating.

Mark, I'm trying to create the situation described in this thread where I'll have seven profile types of different levels. They all will have the exact same fields and custom fields. The only difference is some settings on the Access tab, such as a different number of groups they can join. If I were to manually upgrade a user in this situation, all his fields data will be retained in his new profile? and change only his Access settings?

Also, are you able to confirm the team's plan to include a Subscription feature to different profile types in ES 1.4?

Hello John,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply. I am not really feeling well today I guess it should be fine but I guess you probably want to test this out with a test user first?

Yes, we are definitely going to include our own subscriptions engine

Hey there,

We were supposed to add this into 1.4 but we had to hold off this to make way for a speedier 1.4 release of the videos as a lot of users were waiting for this functionality.

I will see if we can put this into 1.4.2 or 1.4.3 along with other goodies
