Profile photo (Avatar)

It's not a bug.

Why is it not possible to re-align or re-cut your profile photo?

You have to re-select the photo every time you want to re-align or re-cut it.

Problem: If you upload a profile picture, other users will comment on it, all goes well. But if you delete the stream entry that you uploaded a profile picture from the stream, then there is a problem. Here is the way to follow:

1. upload profile picture
2. comment stream entry (photo)
3. delete stream entry
4. edit profile picture (now you can only select the same picture again for re-align or crop). So take the same picture again.
5. now a new stream entry with the same picture is created again. But the previous comments have disappeared.

Therefore it would be good if you could re-align or crop the profile picture without selecting the photo again.

I hope I could explain the problem well enough?
Hi Chris,

I believe the issue you are describing is basically a UX issue, correct?

Just to confirm, are you referring to the avatar field in the profile edit page or updating the avatar from the profile header(https://take.ms/8Xlty)?

If the UX issue which you described above relates to the profile edit page, can you let us know whether the 'Choose from photos' option in the profile header is able to prevent the issue?

A new stream entry will always be created if the previous avatar update stream entry is deleted.

No, what I mean is. The cover can be repositioned by moving it. Without having to reload it.

But you can't move the profile photo again. Therefore you have to select the photo again.

It would be good, as like the cover, to edit the profile photo without reloading it.

And to the stream entry:

Imagine you have 5 profile photos (avatars). Each photo has 30 comments and likes.

But now if you delete the stream entries for each profile photo, the comments and likes are gone, too.

That's very annoying. It's not a bug or mistake, I realize that. But it is very cumbersome and confusing for the user.

It would be better not to delete the stream entry for the avatar, but only to hide it. And if the user then uses the same avatar again, the stream entry will appear again without the comments and likes being deleted.

Hey chris,

So basically what you mean is by eliminating the need to re-upload similar avatar images just to re-crop, we are able to prevent similar stream items from being generated.

By preventing similar stream items from being generated, it also means we do not need to resort to situations where we couldn't delete those seemingly similar stream items because they may contain comments or reactions.

Am I understanding your case correctly now?

A) Hi Raymond yes, I made you a video. There you see the problem:

https://www.screencast.com/t/1CSeOLY4

The old comments and likes disappear every time you change your photo.

And actually I only wanted to reposition or cut the avatar. But this function doesn't exist.

And the problem is that all comments disappear every time you change your profile picture and delete the stream entry.

1. One solution would be the stream entry for the profile photo cannot be deleted, only hidden. And as soon as the user uses this photo as an avatar again, the hidden stream entry is displayed again at the top of the stream.

2. And please introduce a function so that you can edit the avatar without reloading it.

B) Another problem: If you hide the stream entry, a stream entry will never be created again when you change the avatar.

Hey Chris,
And the problem is that all comments disappear every time you change your profile picture and delete the stream entry.
I will log this issue in our tracker so that we can prevent comments from disappearing.

If the stream is hidden, it won't be displayed again(if the same avatar is reused during avatar update) until the user unhides the stream itself.
