Just wondering if I can add the 'pick a profile image' from the mini registration? All our new users will look like twitter eggheads or have the exact same profile picture. That isn't great for a community site, imho.

Seems like a lot has been removed from this 'upgrade' /sigh

thank you,

Bridgette
It is not possible to add a profile image selection in the quick registration. Why?

1. The purpose of quick registration is to allow users to quickly register. Adding an immense amount of fields on the quick registration then defeats the purpose of "quick" registration.

2. Should you require or enforce users to pick an image, you could then enable the profile completion checks. With such checks, the user must update their profile before being able to access the community.

I personally think that #2 would fit your case better because even having a profile picture selection on your quick registration doesn't enforce them to pick a picture.

Hi Mark,

I understand your reasoning to a point. If I had asked for all fields or several - it would make sense. I didn't I asked for the most basic thing that differentiates our members - the profile image is how everyone is recognized on the site.

To me, this is like you decided to pull usernames and make everyone signup with the Joomla required full name only. Because you wanted to cut fields.

A quick registration and then immediately forcing members to go to the profile and fill in more feels like a bait and switch -- here - "easy signup". "Oh wait, no, you aren't done..."

I guess I will have to live with it and set a default profile image or have a bunch of blank head images. Now, we'll just have a pack of clones.

I don't like it. It's a downgrade from a feature we relied on.

One of the things I liked best about EasySocial was that I as the admin got to decide how to use it. How did I want to lay out the features, functions etc. What was important to us, and worth a small price in terms of loading speed.

Now, you make all the decisions - and that probably works ok for most people but for those of us who don't want it "your" way, it doesn't.

Now, I'm off to make a profile that has everything I want on it. That will be our new 'quick registration' (even though we'll call it a full profile) and after members join, I'll have to move them to the other normal profile so that they can fill out a full real profile when they are ready.

If that isn't a step backwards - I don't know what is.

thanks,

Bridgette

There are pros and cons in having a more sophisticated setup and we opted for a more simplified approach as it reduces almost 99% confusions.

In fact till date, we have less support queries about "why are the fields not showing up in the quick registration" versus "why can't i add more fields on the quick registration". To be more precise, there are only 3 tickets so far about "extending my quick registration" versus over 100 tickets that has problems showing the quick registration fields.

Having said that, our goal is to reduce this to 0 tickets for good. Be it for developers or normal end users and we are now considering pushing more custom fields to the theme files and as a developer yourself, you could easily just output the field in the quick registration if you need it with simple template overrides.
