Also, on my site, komento is sending notifications to users that are not the author or anywhere on the comment thread. Couldn't find a setting that would restrict the notification to the post author or comment author.

You can disable this 'Notify Subscribers' setting and untick all the checkboxes under Notification Recipients section(https://monosnap.com/file/5xe5YOOlFTT4teWBf24jBpiYScyIb8) and see how it goes.

If I understand you wrongly, can you explain more in detail so that we can have a better understanding of it?

Just an update for you regarding the issue that you reported.

I am really sorry for my mistake as I just noticed that actually the reason that this happens is due to that you did not install this Komento app(https://stackideas.com/apps/item/9-comments) in EasySocial applications.
