As you can see from the screenshot I do not understand why the first image is the right size as the one indicated by the arrow on the other hand is great.

Did you recently change the "module size" in the blog image settings? I have checked the site and it seems like it is now 250 x 200 as opposed to 70 x 70, http://screencast.com/t/ZFkLsCoi . I have set it back to 70 x 70 and it displays fine now
