Hi

I have set "Appear During Displaying" to "NO", "Searchable" to "YES" and "Privacy options" to YES for a custom field to test what each config exactly does...
I logged in as a user and opened his own profile to verify it. I saw that privacy option for the particular custom field was still set to "shared with everyone", which I presume coming from Privacy control.

I am a bit confused on difference between these three config.

I assumed that selecting "NO" for "Appear During Displaying" works in the same as "only me" for "privacy option". Why this field is still set to "shared with everyone" when "Appear During Displaying" to "NO"? How everyone are able to view it?

Other thing I am curious is that if user selects "only me" for "privacy option" when "Searchable" is set to "YES", this user will be excluded from advance search even if value of this custom field for this user is a match for search criteria?
How about other level of privacy option was selected, like "My friends"?
Only friends are able to view this user on search results if value of this custom field for this user is a match for search criteria?

How these three config work together? any dependency on each other? If not, why they work separately? They all sound like the same purpose to me.

Much appreciate if you can elaborate..
I hope my questions are clear, otherwise I will send screenshots to clarify..

many thanks
From the privacy setting part, if you would like to immediately update all of your existing user privacy setting, you have to tick that option (which i mentioned at my attached screenshot below) before you save.

Yes, that is correct.

Thank you for your feedback.

You didn't mention anything about my first query regarding relation between "Appear During Displaying" "privacy option" & "Searchable".

Much appreciate if you can shed a light or let me know any good documents that explain about them? I could not find it anywhere..

Unfortunately your suggestion regarding privacy setting won't work for me.
I have 10 profile types with multiple address fields.
I want only one of address fields to be private and the rest of the address fields can be seen by registered users.
Is it possible?

Many thanks

Hey there,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply,

Appear During Displaying - If you enabled this option, that custom field will appear on their user profile page.
Privacy option - If you enabled this option, user have permission to change their privacy on their profile field, you can refer on my attached 2 screenshot below.
Searchable - If you enabled this option, system will allow that custom field can searchable if the search keyword is matched.

Unfortunately that was not possible to achieve this is because if you update it from backend > Easysocial > profile type > privacy > select address field - e.g friend of friend only (screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/2HF0svZF ) > tick that option > save , the system will applied to ALL the address field privacy to 'friend of friend only' for under this profile type users.

Thank you, One thing I still need to clarify as I am still not too sure dependency amongst 3 setting..

Privacy option - If you enabled this option, user have permission to change their privacy on their profile field, you can refer on my attached 2 screenshot below.
Searchable - If you enabled this option, system will allow that custom field can searchable if the search keyword is matched.

If "user A" sets a field to private, this specific field for "user A" will be excluded from search even when Searchable is set to on for this field? I assume it is how it should be. please confirm?

Many thanks

You're welcome.

Yes, it depend on what field "user A" set.

For example :

1. User A set "Gender" field to private (Only me).
2. User B try to search "Gender" field data through the Easysocial advanced search
3. The result will not show User A.

Hope this explanation will help.

I am very sorry to keep coming back.

If I set NO to "Appear during display" for a custom filed and "NO" to searchable,
what is the point of still setting "YES" to privacy?

It okay

Actually that was different, If you switch off that "Privacy", your site user unable to set their own privacy on these custom field, you can refer on my attached screenshot below.

Because that "Privacy" user can able to set show to "everyone", "Only me", or "friend only".
