Goal: I would like to offer an "introductory price" of $99.00/year. Say, 6 months later, I would like to then offer my "regular price" at 125.00/year.

Question: do I simply just change the plan price and they will automatically be charged $125.00 instead of $99.00 when it is time for them to renew? Or would I have to use a coupon code at the beginning to bring the price down to $99.00? I would like to avoid using a coupon code.

Thanks so much!

Aaron
Hey Arron,

Let me know you are using Recurring plan or Fixed plan.
So i'll assist you further.

Thanks!

Hey Aaron,

Sorry for the delayed response.

This would be for recurring plans.

In that case you need to create Recurring + 1 Trial Plan, where trial price should be $99 and Regular price should be $125.
So when user subscribe this plan initial price will be $99 and after an year further recurrence payment will be of $125.
Refer this link for more details : https://stackideas.com/docs/payplans/administrators/plans/plan-creation

Say a user subscribes for a 1 year recurring plan (no trial) January 2021 for $99.00. What happens if I just change the price to the recurring plan December 2021 to $125.00 just before that user has their automatic renewal in January 2022?

Thanks!

Hey aaron,

If you change the existing recurring plan price to $125 from $99, then this change will be applicable for new subscribes only.
Then existing subscriber will charge with old price ie. $99.

That's why i would like to suggest you to use Recurring + trial 1 plan to charge different amount in first year and subsequent years.

Let me know if you have any query.

I have a new/unique product making it difficult to determine what to price it at. Essentially, my goal is to start out at $99.00/year and go up from there based on how my users react to the price and as I add content/functionality over time.

If I understand correctly:
- For yearly recurring, a user will be charged yearly the original amount they signed up for regardless of price changes.
- For yearly recurring + trial 1, they have a trial at a trial price and then a recurring price yearly after that, BUT I have to commit to the trial and recurring price now; i.e. existing users will be charged their original recurring price regardless of me changing the price of the plan

Both of these options are not scalable.

Question: what is the best way to deal with a scaling product that increases its price due to increased content/functionality/value to its customers? i.e. as I put more value into my product I want to charge more for that product.

Thanks!

Hey aaron,

Thank you for the details information.

With recurring payment it's not possible to change the price on subsequent payment as price will be decided when the user purchase the subscription, later can not alter the price.

If your case is that you need to change the price then you should use Fixed payment instead of Recurring one.
Once subscription expired, user need to renew his plan manually (Fixed plan renewal done manually from user dashboard) and renewal done as per the price change.

Hey Karanveer,

Thanks for the help with this.

This seems like this needs to be added to the feature request list. This is likely a common issue. For example, I get notifications from Netflix that they will be raising the monthly subscription; I don't have to do anything...they simply increase their monthly rate and that is what I get charged.

Many businesses need to scale (i.e. increase the price) as they increase features.

Last question: If a customer is on a recurring plan at 99/year starting January 2021, is it possible for me to stop that recurring payment, for example, in December 2021, before they get charged in January 2022? That way, I could invite them to resubscribe in January at the higher price.

Thanks!

It's depend on the payment method api because when recurring payment subscribe they want all the related details at first like homay recurring payment needed ans what prices.
So, it's not generalize to change the price currently.

I asked a very similar question some years ago. Your payment processor needs to support being able to change pricing and then that processor supported by PayPlans.

Hey andrew,

I asked a very similar question some years ago. Your payment processor needs to support being able to change pricing and then that processor supported by PayPlans.

In case of ongoing recurring payment , it's now possible to change plan price.
New price changes applicable for new subscriber or renewal done after expiration of recurring plan.

Let me know if you have any query.
