Hi, Just wondering how to preview the post before publishing.
On earlier version 3.x, there was a preview option next to the post title.
I notice there is a preview option under "Save for later" button but does not seem to do anything but only saving the post.

Can you advise?

Hey Oscar!

This is a problem with browser's pop-up blocker as the composer uses a pop-up to open the preview post. You need to add your website to the exception list of a browser's website.

In Firefox, when you press the Preview Post, a pop-up blocker will show up below your URL bar as shown in the screenshot 1 below. Click on the Options and choose the first option.

In Chrome, the pop-up blocker appears in the URL as shown in the screenshot 2 below. Click on it and choose the first option.

Hi Syazwan,

Thanks for the reply. Now I got the pop up fixed but it shows 400 error.
See attached.

Also, is there any way that I just want to preview without having to save the post for later?
Another thing is that when I click close on composer the post even empty is saved as draft. How to disable?

Hey Oscar,

This might be because:

1) You are creating and viewing the post from the back-end
2) The preview post function opens the preview of the post on the front-end
3) The front-end MUST be logged in. If you do not log in, it will show the error to prevent unauthorized access.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Syazwan,

That is correct. i am not logged in on the front-end. The front-end site has no login.
Also, its not a unauthorised error. Its page not found.

This is a little strange in my opinion.
Why should a super admin working on the back-end needs to login on the front-end to preview what he/she is doing?
Also, the post is supposed to be for public so why un-authorised?
Besides, public would not know the preview link any ways.

Any workaround?

Hi Syazwan,

I think an option to let admin preview the post without having to login to front-end should be implemented.
Version 3.x for me and my clients work well and serve the purpose.
The public would not know the preview link any ways to view your unpublished work unless of course you let them know.

Please do not misunderstand what I am about to say as I think you guys have done a great job and certainly a lot of hours on this new version.

There's a Joomla component Chronoforms which allows you to design forms pretty much from the back-end.
It provides a button "test form" which opens up a new tab with the form that you are currently working on so you can have a look and test it sort of like a preview.
They do not ask you to login on the front-end first to view so I thought maybe you guys can do the same.

If you think its necessary to login from front-end to view the post, then maybe like what I said previously you can add an option on settings whether authors/admins need to login to preview or not.

Just my 2 cents. Something to think about.

I guess until you guys decided to implement this, I might have to do a core hack on this preview button.
Can you let me know which file that handles the unauthorised part for preview?

Thanks

This doesn't appear all the time. You can make changes on the back-end and view the changes front-end without logging in. However, certain features that have user-specific functions required this because the user log in of the front-end and back-end system is separate.

Say that you are configuring the back-end with superuser access, but you want to see the effects on the front-end from a specific user's side. So you have to log in using a registered user account and not the superuser.

It will only be public once you have published it. Before that, it will remain as a draft only accessible by those that have the authority such as superuser/admins.

That's true, but it's possible that they might gain access to it somehow either by hacking or knowing your back-end access.

I'm afraid there isn't any workaround to this.

By the way, I tried to access your site, but I got a timed out error.

Hi Syazwan,

I understand where you are coming from regarding configuring from back-end that have user-specific access. But i was just talking about previewing the post. Changing text adding more images to a post and previewing it before it gets published.

The preview link is only to see what its going to look in the front-end anyways. So even if public gets the preview link, they should not be able to do anything but just see an unpublished not completed version of post.

What I am after is a preview of the post as what you guys have implemented on your previous version 3.x. Thats all. See attached pic1 for Joomla admin and and pic2 for what it opens up to.

I just don't understand why its so complicated now.

Timed out error? Cannot be. site is opening fine on my end.

Hi Syazwan,

Any ways thank you for your help.
I have consulted with my client and they are fine if they have to login on the front-end to do a preview.
They told me they had to do it as well last time but funny thing i cannot seem to replicate on my localhost copy.
When clicking on preview it straight away opens up.

Well thank you for indulging me today and hopefully you might want to consider my suggestion.

Cheers,
Oscar

Hey Oscar,

Is it possible that you may have login your front-end? Anyways, I'm glad that I can help with your issues. As for the suggestion, it is a solid idea, especially the option setting to toggle the front-end access. We will see what we can do for the future release of EasyBlog.

However, it will be most helpful if you can post your suggestion in the Voices section. That way it will be easier for our developers to gather all the suggestions for future development.

Regards,
Syazwan

Hello,

I am trying to use the "Preview Post" feature.
I enabled the pop-up blocker, I logged in on the front end of the website but I am still getting the 400 error.
Is there anything else that I could try?

400
UNABLE TO SET AS REVISION AS CURRENT REVISION ON POST.
Looks like the page you're trying to visit doesn't exist.
Please check the URL and try your luck again.

Thank you for your help.

Hey there

By the way, it looks like your account isn't tied up with any subscriptions on our site. Is there any mistake on our end? Would it be possible for you to contact us at https://crm.stackideas.com and provide us with the order reference and your username so that we can fix this up for you?

As a gentle reminder, kindly start a new thread if you have any other issue in the future so it will be easier for us to manage your inquiry. I will lock and mark this thread as resolved.
