Hi There,

Is there a way to set an ACL for Posting in a certain category? In Category, I can select the Author but that does not stop me from posting a blog in any Category. I want to create a Category and make that exclusive to an Author. That would mean that exclusive category will not appear in the category list of an author if they are not authorized to post a blog in that category.

Thanks,

Jackson
Hello Jackson,

You can't explicitly configure it per user but you can configure which user groups are allowed to post into a category. Please do take a look at my screen shot here, http://take.ms/jjVua1

Hi Mark,

Thanks for pointing me to that.

Don't you think that it would be a good feature to add? Since EB is capable of having Team Bloggers + Blogger with its own Name them I guess it's just fit that there's should be an ACL who can post in a Category.

The solution you provided would mean I would have to create a single group for each user who has its own Category just to do what I wanted to do.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hello Jackson,

Nope, it's not ideal and it will lead to a lot of other complications (in terms of database queries) especially when it has ability to assign single user or group to the category.

We experienced similar performance issues with our ACL where you could assign custom ACL per user in the older versions of EasyBlog prior to 3.x but it on the other hand causes a lot of performance related issues.

Again, I think this functionality makes sense for your site for what you are trying to do but in general, not every site wants to restrict the category per user as they would come to us and tell us that it would be difficult to add one user at a time whenever a new user registers on the site.

Hi Mark,

I was reading this article in wordpress.com about Group Blogs and the author recommended:

Another quick tip? Create a category for each user, using their name. It’s an additional way for readers to find users’ posts, and they can subscribe to the person’s category feed, too.

I was trying to use EB to build a multi-blogger website but I guess EBs logic is designed differently. I figured, EB's Author view does the same thing Instead of creating a category for each user as what is recommended in the article.

So I guess it's all good! Thanks for hearing me out.

Thanks,

Jackson

Yep, EasyBlog is built with multi user in mind already so you don't have to play with these tricks to create multi user environment.
