It's something odd about the event.. just realised that unless I'm logged in as super admin, I can't see the event on the event listings page, nor can I see the picture posted on the timeline.

If I am logged in as super admin then I can see the timeline entries - but if you go to the event page without logging in mysite /events/783-free-zumba then it says there is no activity on the timeline.

It's almost then as if there is some secrecy / privacy setting on that event - but I can't see where.... ah yes, actually if I look at the events in the back-end, for some reason it has nothing in the 'type' column - so it looks like it created itself without a 'type' - should that be possible?

I won't fix it until you can see it for yourself. I presumably can edit it back-end and change the 'type' setting to enforce it to use something there.

It seems like you are right, actually it related with the event type, for some reason this event 'Free ZUMBA' is missing the type.

For now, I've help you re-save this event from backend, it should stored that type correctly now and publish user can able to see those stream item under this event.

By the way, currently I am not sure what is the reason why it doesn't get the event type value before save, but I did applied some fix into this file JoomlaFolder/media/com_easysocial/apps/fields/event/type/type.php and this fix will included in next release version as well.
