Joomla 3.4.3. EasyBlog 5.0.16. PHP 5.4.42

When, for the purposes of adding a cover image, I am uploading an image using the Media Manager I see that 5 alternatively sized images are also created.
xxxxx-icon_image.jpg
xxxxx_large_image.jpg
xxxxx_medium_image.jpg
xxxxx_small.image.jpg
xxxxx_thumbnail_image.jpg

I think the way it looks like you are dealing with cover photos in v5 is pretty cool. One thing I noticed was that the thumbnail version was being selected automatically for the og:image.
<meta property="og:image" content="http://mysite.test/images/blog_images/3574/b2ap3_thumbnail_image.jpg"/>

Facebook appears to prefer larger images for og:image.
Image Sizes: Use images that are at least 1200 x 630 pixels for the best display on high resolution devices. At the minimum, you should use images that are 600 x 315 pixels to display link page posts with larger images ( From Facebook - https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/best-practices ).

For me being able to select a larger image for Facebook open graph is preferable.
Also, being able to select a smaller "natural" image size for covers photos for listing or entry view would be preferable. Finally, selection flexibility for the image that is assigned to for the lightbox (currently seems to be the original) would be nice to have as well. This might be pushing it:).

I can see in 5.0.16 where you have added the ability set the size of the cover images in list and entry view (very nice)(Settings ->Layout->Post Cover). I have my Post Cover Settings (Entry) set to 260px. Ideally I would want the natural size of that image to be 260 px as well (or close to it). But I would want my og:image to be much larger.

For me in an ideal world my customer would upload a 1200 x 1200 image. Alternatively sized images are created on upload. I would then have the ability to select or preselect what images (icon, thumb, small, medium etc) are used for 1) post cover entry, 2) lightbox and 3) og:image.

Thanks for your help!
Hey Keith,

By default in 5.0.17, they are now using large variant

Just to clarify.

When you say "they" are using the large variant. I am hopeful you are referring to the og:image and not the post image - either in list or entry view.

The post image should use a smaller variant - correct?

Can you please clarify.

Thank you.

Hey Keith,

In 5.0.17, you can choose which variant to use on the listing and entry. Whilst the opengraph image tag will always use the large version

What is the optimal size to upload to use as your post cover then to make page loading times quick as well.

Hey Alan,

It really depends on the width of your component area. Because we do not know how large the width of the component area (as it differs between different templates)
