It's not possible to mix the comments on two different posts because they are actually associated with the post. Even though they are the same posts in a different language, in essence they both have a different post id.

It seems odd that comments can't be displayed across the same post but in their respective languages.

If you have created different posts in different languages, there is no way around this. It also does not make sense to combine the comments because people who comment are going to be commenting in the respective language of the page. If you combine them, you get really weird results.

For instance, if you have English, Dutch and Chinese. By combining them, you may eventually end up with comments in English, Dutch and Chinese which is completely irrelevant to the post since they might be commenting on something different.
