Hi,

I 'm a bit stuck here.
I am currently working on a project using Cobalt CCK and where (Komento) comments play a huge role.

Users can post articles and they are supposed to moderate their article comments by themselves.
In the ACL you can set a user group (eg Author) to publish, edit (etc) authored content's comment.

However, moderation is only possible in the back end, so they are not able to approve comments.
Here my request:

1. Facilitate front end approval of comments by article owners.
2. Or: Auto publish and flag comments as unpublished until the article owner decides to publish them.

I really hope you can help.

Best regards,
Himgoku
Hi, sorry for bumping up this topic but it's time to get a status update on my request.

Currently it is not possible but this feature is on the roadmap for future versions of Komento.

Where can I find this roadmap? Which version will that be? Will you be committed to implement this in the next version?

Unfortunately I will be forced to choose another commenting system if author's can't moderate their articles comments.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for responding.

Could you at least consider adding 'view unpublished comments' in ACL?
Unpublished comments would preferably have an extra css class to distinct them from published comments.

I saw that article owners can unpublish comments on their articles, but once unpublished they are 'gone'.
If article owners could view unpublished comments in the front end, they could republish comments that were unpublished by mistake.

Best regards

Thanks, we'll consider this but I cannot guarantee that this will be added in the next release. We prioritize on users with a valid subscription since they are contributing towards the project

Hi, I've got a valid subscription.

Frankly I am a bit disappointed with the lack of frontend moderation in such a wonderful product.

Himgoku's suggestion of viewing unpublished comments in order to publish/unpublish makes perfectly sense to me.
Other components offer approval by email, which IMHO is even more convenient.

These days its all about user content (Twitter, Facebook, google plus, etc).
I am about to launch a site where user content is also king. Users can submit/write articles and comment to others.
Authors are 'awarded' if their articles receive tho most (sensible) comments. At the same time the site has to be a respectful place.
By giving authors at least the possibility to unpublish disrespectful comments, they can control over what happens on their pages.

There is a thin line between sensible moderation and censorship.
I want users to let them decide what is appropriate or not and then see what happens.

So yes, I support Himgoku's constructive suggestion.
Thank you for listening.....

Hi,

Unfortunately, in terms of programming, it is not just as simple as adding 1 new rule. There are some core changes and sql changes required to accommodate this change.

We will see if we can add this in the future versions.

I understand.

I'm sure you will find a clever way of doing this....one way or another.

Cheers,

Hi,

1. If a user submits a comment and the comment is subject to moderation, approval by email feature is currently available.
2. Users can interact and "Report" a comment to admin if necessary. There is a Report interface in the backend for this.

Hi Jason,

1. If a user submits a comment and the comment is subject to moderation, approval by email feature is currently available.

How do I activate this? Does this mean I can actually approve a comment by just clicking a link in the email?
Can a Content Author approve a comment by email?

2. Users can interact and "Report" a comment to admin if necessary. There is a Report interface in the backend for this.

Yes i know, and it is very well implemented

Hi,

Go to backend -> Integrations -> Select Component -> Notifications -> Mail Notification.

If you've enabled the option "Notify Content Author", then content author will receive respective mail (new comment, new reply, new pending comment, etc).

And yes you can just approve a comment by just a click through the link in the email for comments subjected to moderation.

Hi Jason,

I thought only moderators were able to approve comments by email, my bad.

Thanks!

Hi Jason,

I'm using Kommento for discussions and ED for forums on my site, Kommento is enabled on fixed articles (i.e no new articles are allowed)
I understand that ED has a very good moderating system, wherin i can assign moderators who can moderate threads. Can i achieve the same in Kommento, basically i want three things:
1) Ability for the superuser to assign moderators for Kommento by Article ID
2) Once a threshold reportings are achieved (E.g. 5 people have reported on a comment) ---> the comment gets auto unpublished
3) The super-user & the assigned moderator for that article are notified for further action with editing/deleting. (Moderators would have only front end access)

Point 2. is critical as i would be having approx 6000 articles and auto unpublish on reporting threshold would be absolutely required, otherwise i'll go mad sifting through the reported comments on the back end and unpublishing them one-by-one.

regards

Hello Sunny,

I am sorry but unfortunately right now Komento does not have these functionality at this point of time.

1) Ability for the superuser to assign moderators for Kommento by Article ID

Instead of assigning moderators, you could make them authors of the articles you want them to moderate and restrict article editing by using Joomla's ACL. This only works if you want one moderator per article.

2) Once a threshold reportings are achieved (E.g. 5 people have reported on a comment) ---> the comment gets auto unpublished

This is an interesting idea. Moderating huge numbers of comments can be quite cumbersome. The biggest drawback however, is that you entirely trust the judgement of those who report an article.

I would suggest auto-collapsing comments instead of unpublishing them automatically. The offending text is hidden initially, but the commentator's name remains visible, so visitors know who the 'offender' is. This could be achieved with a template override and some css, mysql and php code I presume. I am not a programmer and unfortunately I don't know how to count the number of reports per comment.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the update, so using Komento is out of question now for me. As a fall back i'm exploring Easy discuss now.

The work flow i plan is as below:

1) Create a category with rights of creating thread only to super user
2) Create 6000 threads as super user (So that these threads act as articles)
3) Allow comments and discussions on the above fixed 6000 threads
4) No Member is allowed to create a new thread, they are only allowed to comment with the help of ACL in ED or permissions in category

Now I had two questions:
1) If i create these fixed 6000 threads, they show the author details on the left with avatar, PM & link to easysocial profile. Is there anyway i can remove this only for the author of the post. (There would be no new authors, only comentors). The avatar and PM of comentors is needed.

2) Is there anyway i can insert PHP code in the post? (In joomla articles i had Sourcerer triggering the variable which was stored in the article to showcase the current price of the stockmarket) But in Easy discuss form if i enter sourcerer tag it breaks the site.

I know its a hack, but basically because of Kommento moderation limitations, ED is the best choice for me to achieve discussions.

looking forward for your advise.

regards

At the end of the day, We have trust somebody, specially our visitors. If we can define threshold, then its collective wisdom not blind trust :-)

You can easily create a new user group similar to Author, but disallow article editing.

I agree, hence I just suggested even a more open and democratic way of moderation, where visitors can understand why a comment has been reported. If you auto unpublish a comment, no one can protest against a 'faulty' report.

Hello Sunny,

Sorry for late reply to this,
Please find your answer in your below queries :
1) Create a category with rights of creating thread only to super user
2) Create 6000 threads as super user (So that these threads act as articles)
3) Allow comments and discussions on the above fixed 6000 threads
4) No Member is allowed to create a new thread, they are only allowed to comment with the help of ACL in ED or permissions in category
>> Yes, you can disable the post question permission from every user group except Super user group in your backend > Easydiscuss > ACL
>> And only give the permission which user group can able to comment in your question.

Now I had two questions:
1) If i create these fixed 6000 threads, they show the author details on the left with avatar, PM & link to easysocial profile. Is there anyway i can remove this only for the author of the post. (There would be no new authors, only comentors). The avatar and PM of comentors is needed.

>> Try backup your original file and download my attachment 2 file then replace in
>> JoomlaFolder\components\com_easydiscuss\themes\simplistic\post.actions.php
>> JoomlaFolder\components\com_easydiscuss\themes\simplistic\post.question.item.php
>> And see how it goes.

2) Is there anyway i can insert PHP code in the post? (In joomla articles i had Sourcerer triggering the variable which was stored in the article to showcase the current price of the stockmarket) But in Easy discuss form if i enter sourcerer tag it breaks the site.
>> It seems like this question is not related the component issues, if you need customizations, try contact our billing department for a quote at https://crm.stackideas.com

Thanks for heading up on this himgoku.

Hi Peter many thanks,

There seems to be an issue with post actions.php, on having this file run, the quote function is not available.
BTW why is post.actions.php editing required? only post.question.item.pho would suffice??
am i missing some logic in editing post.actions.php

regards

hello Sunny,

You're welcome, because I checked you provided that screenshot, you mark that quote function you wouldn't to display right? Check my screenshot below.

If you need quote function then you no need apply this file (post.actions.php) in your site.
