Does anyone know why poll voting is no longer appearing on the EasySocial Stream?

In the application setting, we can select whether to show poll voting or not on the stream.
However, activating this does nothing and no poll voting is shown on the stream.
Poll creation is shown, but not subsequent poll voting.
(I got the same result on the EasySocial demo - no stream activity for poll votes)

This is an ideal way to create member activity, as members tend to react more to things they see on the stream.
How do we get poll votes to appear on the EasySocial stream.
Hi there,

I believe vote streams were never created when voting on EasySocial polls. And I believe the setting for vote streams in the app was a bug and it should not be available there. I'll log this to our developer to remove it.

The reason why vote streams were not created is to prevent the dashboard from filled with vote streams. Since users are allowed to vote up/down, these actions will create multiple streams which ending up cluttering the dashboard.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Thanks for the update.

However, I do believe that its an important feature and without it, we might as well just remove EasySocial polls entirely.
So we would prefer that the feature be included and switched on/off via the toggle switch, rather than having developers remove it entirely. That gives us the option of deciding whether its too much traffic or not.

Why is it important?
Members do not go looking for polls to vote on, rather they vote when they see the poll.
If votes are not shown in the stream, polls "disappear" from view and don't get votes.
Then members don't want to create new polls, since no-one is voting on them.

As an example, we deployed an additional poll system from another vendor on our website, with the main difference being:
Alternate poll module allowed random polls to be shown.
Alternate poll module showed voting in the stream, with the ability to vote on the stream item.

The 2 poll systems were enabled for 2 weeks each, to gauge member preference.
The poll module was placed in the same position and menu changed to point to the relevant poll component.

Easy Social polls:
2 new polls created
32 votes cast

Alternate polls system
27 new polls created
2764 votes cast

Its very obvious as to which way works and which way doesn't!

We prefer to use the EasySocial built-in poll (e.g. for mobile app compatibility etc) but its pointless if expected "core" functionality is not there/working.

Hi there,

Thanks for the explanation. If I understand you correctly, it sounded like more towards a new feature request (polls stream aggregation).

Based on your initial inquiry,
> How do we get poll votes to appear on the EasySocial stream

Creating these poll votes streams will create multiple streams which ending up cluttering the dashboard. In order to implement this, some content aggregation for polls need to be in place in order to minimize or reduce the numbers of poll votes streams created. Otherwise, stream items are not optimized for the user.

For example, on your site, there are 100 users who voted on the newly created poll. This action will create 100 votes streams. Let say you've friends with 30 users on your site, you'll get 30 votes streams given that these users didn't vote up or down. If they do, this will create another votes streams. This is only for 1 poll created on your site. The same things will happen to other polls as well.

On a serious note, this will create another issue in which users need to scroll down to see other user's posts which later end up user will hide this kind of streams from appearing on his dashboard which also will create another issue of users are not able to see the poll streams.

Perhaps, you can add Recent Polls Module on your site to list down all the available polls on EasySocial so users are able to see the polls created on your site?

But above all, this is an interesting value-added to be implemented in EasySocial. Could you kindly submit a feature request at https://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial so we can further incubate this feature?

Thanks for your understanding.
Cheers.

Hello again,
Thanks for the prompt reply.

As I understood it, this is how the polls feature was meant to work, as there is already a toggle switch for this.
Hence I didn't consider it a "new" feature.

Re making the stream cluttered, using the alternative system, every new vote WAS listed on the stream and we never received any complaints about it being cluttered (although to be fair, our site is fairly busy).
I concede that could become a potential problem on the user's personal timeline, if every vote for their poll is shown there.
But that could easily be resolved.

Recent Polls module
We already use the recent polls module, but this isn't nearly as effective as a random poll module would be.
Also, on mobile devices, its not practical to show 5 or more latest polls AND their content (you need to show the poll contents - in the real world, if you only show the poll name, no-one clicks on the poll item to "read more")

IMHO, the best option would just be to make the Polls module more comprehensive
e.g allow random polls to be shown, allow AJAX in-module voting / results display, different colored bars etc
