Photos in Discussions thread

I am looking to use groups as the central part of my social network. I'm ok with conversations happening within the discussions app of groups, but find it very limiting that I cannot post a photo or video within the discussion thread.

The closest I can seem to do is attach a link to a photo which opens in a new window.

Is media functionality possible within the discussion thread? I am guessing this is possibly with Easy Discuss, but I am looking for a tight integration within EasySocial for conversations to be had.
I was able to show a picture by editing the discussions/item.image.php file. Basically just adding 
<img src="<?php echo $file->getPreviewURI(); ?>


Any shot video is going to be added within discussions?

Unfortunately that was not possible to achieve this way at this point of time yet.

Are there any plans to enhance the media portion of the discussion reply editor?
