Hi folks,

What is the permalink format for an EasySocial profile? If my permalink is set to "mypermalink" in my profile, will my permalink simply be http://www.mysite.com/permalink?

Thank you,

James
You need to active SEF URL's. Go to the administrator section > Global Configuration > SEO Settings

Set "Search Engine Friendly URLs" to yes. Also set "Use URL rewriting" to yes. This will generate much smoother URL's through out the site.

Then I created a menu item called "Members" by using the ES menu item named users. Don't have it as a sub item of community so that it can have the simplest path possible.

Hello JH,

The permalink would be dependent on how your menu is setup. It should actually be http://site.com/[menu]/profile/permalink

On my site it is site/profile/permalink which is in my opinion the best setup by allowing a simplified URL that is logical and does not conflict with anything else.

Could you clarify... is [menu] the name of the main menu? The alias?

Thanks,

James

Hello James,

Yes, that is correct. The [menu] is dependent on your menu alias.

So, here's my situation:

my site: http://www.theukuleleway.com
alias of EasySocial Joomla menu item: community
ES profile alias: member
permalink (set in my ES profile): jameshill

Which means the permalink should be http://theukuleleway.com/community/member/jameshill

Correct? If so, there's a problem because it doesn't work. What am I missing?

Thank you!

James

Make sure you have a .htaccess file for this to work. It seems your site is not loading. See this article: http://docs.joomla.org/Preconfigured_htaccess

Hello JH,

It's probably worth while that you mention what is the current URL structure that is being generated?

Hi
In this way , can we have exactly mysite.com/Permalink , same as facebook?
So for groups and events?

You can have those kind of url's if you set that menu item to the default one (in other words as the frontpage). However this would only apply to a single selection of members, groups, or events. You can only choose one. In a sense this is a good thing because this prevents a group named "Josh" from taking over the username permalink "Josh". ES 1.4 plans on having beautiful profile url's as a native feature.

If I set that menu item to the default, may cause conflict to ES 1.4 plans? and I will have to change addresses. it is too bad for SEO.

Technically it shouldn't if you do it right. Considering that I wanted a frontpage of modules, I would set a .htaccess redirect so that site.com goes to site.com/home so that I can have a standard frontpage and still have members as the default menu item. When ES 1.4 comes out, the url structure would be the same as this method (the redirect method mentioned above is not needed). However keep in mind that this only applies to members. I actually advise against doing this with groups/events to prevent url conflicts with members.

Yes, it shouldn't.

By the way, thanks for sharing Josh
