I'm noticing a hit to my site about every 10 seconds, and the URL in cPanel Latest Visitors says "/?option=com_komento".

These hits seem to occur on previously viewed pages under the "Referring URL", but there are NO comments made on these pages.

What is causing this? Is there a setting to adjust or disable this?
Hey JV,

I believe this could probably be some cache going on? If the person's browser previously cached the scripts from Komento (which does the polling at shorter interval), it's probably accessing the server?

Hello JV,

This is maybe the AJAX call made by Komento to check if there is new comment on the site so that it can give you notification if there is any.

Yes, I figured that was the case as the file size was only 33-55k or so, and I had read some other posts about the AJAX calls.

So what I am asking is... is there a way to change the frequency at which it makes the call? If it's making it every 10 seconds, can I adjust that somewhere on the back end?

And the other question is WHY is this AJAX call being made? For what reason?

My apologies if I am not clear.

Hello JV,

As I mentioned earlier the ajax call is for the comment notification. For every interval of time, komento will check whether any new comment has been made. If there is a comment, it will display a notification. You can control or disable it in Backend>Komento>Integrations>Layout>Comment Item: http://screencast.com/t/prgqPvdDpEWH

I disabled Live Notifications as you have suggested -- see attached screenshot.

However, I am still getting the hits to the site. This is not a cache issue as I disabled this function yesterday and cleared the caches as well.

Perhaps it is not the AJAX call for new comments?

Hey JV,

Try changing the system environment from static -> development, browse the site and then change it back to static and browse the site again to ensure that the javascripts aren't being cached.

Mark,

That did not have any affect on the problem. Interesting thing though... check out the attachment. This is after a user viewed an article and left the site. Even after the user had left the site, Komento continued to show hits to the server from that user's IP address. This has been going on for the past 45 minutes with this user's IP. And furthermore, the hits were all twice per minute, or most likely every 30 seconds, which is the default interval for the Live Notification check.

Hello JV,

Can you provide us your backend and FTP access so we can have a better look on your issue here?

Hey JV,

Which page has Komento? I can't seem to find an article that has Komento on the site.

All pages have Komento on them, Mark. At the bottom of each page. See pic.

Hello JV,

I've checked your page (https://rapmag.com/archives/1980s/27-89/aug89/99-the-midi-page-sequencer-basics) and monitor the response here: http://screencast.com/t/npT4alPQTyM and wait for 1 minute. I can't find Komento called here. Can you monitor the server logs whether my IP is listed there?

Hi Nick,

I have checked the server log and I do see your visit to that page as well as to the Admin section in Joomla.

It appears the "/?option=com_komento" is no longer appearing on my most recent server log from the past hour. Did you make an adjustment somewhere on the site?

That makes sense, Mark. I hadn't thought of that. I believe you are right, as the server log still looks pretty clean.

Thanks again for your help!
