Currently we do not have support OpenStreetmap at this point of time, perhaps you can request this from our forums feature request here, we will see if there a lot of user requested this, we will definitely consider to implement this in the future.

Yes would be nice and there is some Joomla devs doing nice things with OpenStreet map like this tips too with aggpxtrack.

While its nice to have a location map, for most social communities it becomes a problem.
For any dating site etc it can be dangerous if other members can see your exact location.
That's why we recommend to our members to use an approximation rather than an exact address (in which case we are pay Google for a feature that doesn't add any significant value to our community.)

Some people want a geo-location option for searches eg show members near me (a free option like OpenStreetMap is fine for this purpose) or real-time tracking where Google Maps could be useful, but IMHO that should be a separate add-on rather than bundled as part of ES.
