Hello,

Following recent changes in Google Maps API services, and the significant increase in prices, it would be good if EasySocial (and also the other extensions of Stackideas) support OpenStreetMap.

More information here : https://techcrunch.com/2018/05/02/google-revamps-its-google-maps-developer-platform/

What do you think ?

Thank you,
Philippe
Open street map seems like a pretty good idea, we'll keep this in view.

Yes I agree to also go for OpenStreetMap you can never trust Google

It would be perfect when you go to register and have OpenStreetMap that reconise your location address and it could be mapped there as well so you got the persons name, mobile number, street address connected to OpenStreetMap location.

Hi Mark,

I have OpenStreetMaps integrated with another component on my site that seems to work beautifully (jreviews). Would it help to see that? It would be good if we can get rid of Google altogether

You can use Mapbox feature for OSM enhancement too https://www.mapbox.com/about/maps/

Good starting point https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mapbox

Google is not free
Mapbox is not free (https://www.mapbox.com/pricing/)
OpenStreetMap is free

I don't want to pay for displaying maps and the only free service is OpenStreetMap

Hi Supporter I understand that you didnt read the link I sent you a link that you can read and try to understand 1+1=3 for using open source community project where people like in Joomla community develop code togheter but also can have some parts like SaaS solutions that you have to pay for.

If you take your time to click on the link I gave you before https://www.mapbox.com/about/open/ and there click on one of the Githubs for example use of the Javascript liberary https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js/ I hope that and if you read a little bit more how things works with OpenStreetMap a n d Mapbox.

Hope that make things more clear and as I have understood you can use that javascript liberary for OSM too so hope I am not wrong .

Mapbox GL JS is a JavaScript library for interactive, customizable vector maps on the web. It takes map styles that conform to the Mapbox Style Specification, applies them to vector tiles that conform to the Mapbox Vector Tile Specification, and renders them using WebGL.

Mapbox GL JS is part of the cross-platform Mapbox GL ecosystem, which also includes compatible native SDKs for applications on Android, iOS, macOS, Qt, and React Native. Mapbox provides building blocks to add location features like maps, search, and navigation into any experience you create. To get started with GL JS or any of our other building blocks, sign up for a Mapbox account.

In addition to GL JS, this repository contains code, issues, and test fixtures that are common to both GL JS and the native SDKs. For code and issues specific to the native SDKs, see the mapbox/mapbox-gl-native repository.

Read about the license here https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js/blob/master/LICENSE.txt

Here is another good javascript liberary supporting OSM 100% https://leafletjs.com/

Yes I did read very quickly I admit.
But how do you understand
We also work extensively with proprietary sets of data that we buy: we legally can't open these. Nor do we release heavily processed data. Processing data and delivering the final products has obvious and real costs: server infrastructure and bandwidth, as well as labor. Our ability to distill meaning out of raw material is a core part of our product.

Can you please elaborate more with some specific use of the integrations you are thinking about?
Where/how are the data calls made?

You're right, it is on Easysocial. I've been working with Easydiscuss so I was referring to that.

Hey Jon,

This thread is for EasySocial but please feel free to post one for EasyDiscuss under the feature requests area

Either way, moving forward we will be going to roll out OSM across all of our extensions.
