Hello,

My biggest concern with Stackideas components is that you don't seem willing to make them really multilingual from core.

Today, there is no place in Europe where you only speak one language, native or not (my country has 3 official languages and it is not the only one).
Please have look at these (outdated 2012) statistics and charts:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_the_European_Union#Knowledge
This shows that if you want to make a "european website" you need - at least - the first 6/8 languages installed, preferably 20+ !

From Wikipedia:
The five most spoken languages in the EU are English (51%), German (32%), French (26%), Italian (16%) and Spanish (15%). At 18% of the total number of speakers, German is the most widely spoken native language, whereas English has the largest number of non-native speakers. The knowledge of foreign languages varies considerably in the specific countries, as the table below shows. The most spoken second or foreign languages in the EU are English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Italian. ...

After EB5 I thought you would do the same (language selection) for the other component updates....

The profiles types and all features that have a category directory should be translatable.

I know one of your answer will be "you can create overrides"... yes but no thank you, not a good UX !

One option is that you provide us (like ReadyBites does it for PayPlans) a xml file to install in Falang.

Falang is still the best option for administrators to provide a true multilingual experience.
In the front end members would have the possibility to choose (or automatic - by user's preferences) the language they create their item.

I really would like to read Mark's point of view
but also everyone's who's involved in a multilingual 'community website'

Hey Supporter,

Ah I thought I have already responded to this thread. Sorry, I think I missed this thread I do agree with you because if I put myself into your shoes, I totally understand the frustrations of having to set a lame language string and then translate it .

I actually have some ideas on how this could be implemented but I don't think this can be done in 1.4 as this requires a major overhaul on the profile system. It makes more sense if the overhaul comes along with 1.5 or 2.0 or perhaps a later release.
