Hi there,

On http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/ I am doing some testing to switch from K2 to EasyBlog, On that site I want to have a homepage (for now http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/home2) where I show all blog items. But I also want to have a different main menu item called Nieuws ( for now http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/nieuws2) with just a few EasyBlog categories instead of all categories that I have selected for the homepage.

Now my question. Both menu items will have a couple of the same blog items because they share some of the same selected categories. But now it gives 2 different url's where I want just 1 url. preferable the one that is created if you open the blog item from http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/nieuws2.

Is this possible?

One of the main reasons is that on the homepage I want to show a content slider module, but I do not want to see that module when I open the full blog post. Also, I want to have seperate menu items for specific categories. But I want to show those specific categories also on the homepage.

Regards,
Ewoud
Hello Ewoud,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. It really depends on how you want the URL to look like. There's a couple of options in the back end settings of EasyBlog which allows you to configure the SEF url behavior.

1. Default option - This will ensure that all URLs are not duplicates but it will actually tie the Itemid with the view that is available.

2. Use current menu item - This might cause duplicate URLs because this option will use the current Itemid of the page for the links generated in the blog posts. For instance, if you have 2 menu items, "menu-a" and "menu-b", when accessing the respective menu items, the blog links would be /menu-a/ and /menu-b/ even if they are both the same post.

Hi Mark,

Sometimes I think you never sleep . No matter what time or what day, you always react to these topics. That's why you guys rock!

At this moment I have set 'URL Format for your entry' to Default. But when I open the same blog item from http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/home2 or from http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/home2 the url's of the blog item are:
http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/home2/entry/the-crew-on-the-road-truly-driving-social
http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/nieuws2/entry/the-crew-on-the-road-truly-driving-social

Ideally I only want it to be the second url because the homepage is just an overview of various blog items which are to be found under specific menu items.

It is a bit difficult to explain what I am trying to achieve but hopefully you understand what I am trying to say here.

Regards,
Ewoud

Hello Ewoud,

Sorry for the delays, was checking the other threads on the site. By the way, I think there's some incorrect settings on the site but I am not too sure. The back end access doesn't seem to work for me. Can you please advise?

Hi Mark,

Sorry for that. It looks like I didn't copy the password correctly. I have now edited the first post and entered the correct password.

Can you please check?

Thanks,
Ewoud

Hello Ewoud,

I have configured the routing behavior so that it uses the "Default" method instead. Can you see if this is what you are trying to achieve?

Hi Mark,

It looks a bit better but both url's now have HOME2 in the url. That is exactly the opposite of what I want in the url. They should have NIEUWS2 in the url. But also, if I create a submenu under NIEUWS2, for example VIDEOS, then if I select some categories for VIDEOS, and a blogpost has the category VIDEOS, then if I click the blogitem on the homepage (HOME2), then I would like the url to be for example http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl/videos/entry/the-crew-on-the-road-truly-driving-social.

So on HOME2 I show all categories, but on the menu item NIEUWS2 I only show the category NIEUWS2 and on the submenu VIDEOS I only show the category VIDEOS. If I click on HOME2 on a blog item that has the category VIDEOS, then I want to see VIDEOS in the URL and not HOME2.

Again, it is a bit difficult to explain but hopefully this makes the picture a bit more clear.

Ewoud

Hello Ewoud,

If you want to use NIEUWS2 alias, you can configure this in the routing behavior by selecting "Use menu id" and enter the menu id for NIUWS2 here. Unfortunately, you can't have both methods of urls on the site and it would be extremely confusing too

Hi Mark,

By doing that, the url will always have NIEUWS2 in the url. I think I have not been able to explain it correctly. But on the current homepage (http://tdu1.graphiqs.nl) you will see for example the newsitem 'Win F1 2012'. If you click that item you will see it will open the item on the menu item 'Nieuws'. Then go back to the current homepage and click 'Launch trailer'. You will see it will open the item on the menu item 'Videos'. Go back to the homepage, go to the bottom, click page 3, click the news item '12 nieuwe screenshots' and you see it will open the item on the menu item 'Screenshots'.

The current menu items are using K2 but I want to start using EasyBlog, therefore I am testing on this domain. The current live site is at http://www.testdriveunlimited.nl.

Hello Ewoud,

I think you what you are trying to associate here is the link with the categories, am I right? I have created a sample menu which links to the single category layout in EasyBlog. Take a look at the blog post "Test blog with images in content". Is this what you are trying to achieve here?

Hi Mark,

This looks great. Exactly what I was looking for. One more question though. I have re-arrenged the menu items and now Nieuws2 has several sub menus with the corresponding categories. But at this moment I have the menu Nieuws2 also set to 'Frontpage Blog layout', but I want it to show only the categories of the sub menu items. But I can't seem to find an EasyBlog menu option to show multiple categories. Only 'Frontpage Blog layout' and 'Single Category layout'. So it looks like or all categories are shown, or just one. Is it possible to make a selection of categories as a menu item?

Ewoud

Hello Ewoud,

Unfortunately right now it's not possible to display multiple selection of categories using the single category layout because the system wouldn't know which category would / should be associated with the respective menu item.

Hi Mark,

Maybe it is possible you create an extra option when creating a menu? Something called like 'Multiple category layout'? If that is possible then I can select the categories that I want to display.

Hi Mark,

Please do that. I am not to sure what item type I should use now for NIEUWS2, as I only want to show the categories of the sub menu items. For now I think I should use the 'Frontpage blog layout' but hopefully you can come up with a nice solution in the future
