I see that when I have the 'name' field set to optional that when my user registers the 'name' is set to "Guest" in the backend. I noticed that with an earlier implementation of this feature the users 'name' defaulted to their 'username' when not completed. Was this change intentional with the last update?
Hello John,

It is intentional because some of the easy social users wanted the new user to register using username instead to speed up the quick registration process. You may set the name field as compulsory in your joomla backend > easysocial > profile type > registered user > custom field.

Hope that answer your question

I think you misunderstood my question. I know the purpose of this feature - I was one of the users who requested it And it is very useful too...

What I wanted to know is this - when my users register with just their username, the 'name' field defaults to 'Guest' rather than 'username'. In a previous version the 'name' field used to default to 'username'. I was wondering when this change was made because I would prefer the 'name' field to default to 'username' or something other than 'guest'.

Hello John,

sorry for the misunderstanding there, no changes have been made regarding to the functionality that you have mentioned, in fact if the name field is set as 'not required' or optional, the default first name would be the username as shown in this screenshot of the code here http://screencast.com/t/f5JSqLbrozL .
