Hi Mark,
Thanks for the prompt response and yes this is the Golden question. The simple answer is that I had it as default on Jomsocial however there is a much bigger reason here. Myself (and many others out there) don't necessarily require a fully fledged 'Social Network' but do require (as in my example) an online gallery where people share images and in turn communicate via other channels such as the stream, comments, friend relationships etc etc. The Gallery however is the 'center' of the social network with Friends, Streams, Comments etc surrounding it.
Some of the good aspects of JS is that it had a great Video sharing element, a good Group element and a very good Events element. Some of these were better than the stand alone components out there on JED and could be used individually as such as they are had item ids and could be enabled and disabled. The problem I had with JS is that the Photo element was not quite up the likes of Joomgallery, Phoca etc in that it was the only element that had no form of categorisation (however it did and still does have its own Photos entry point MVC ).
I think its a good idea to give the end user the freedom to use ES how they choose, either the default Facebook type Social Network (no offence intended
) , A Photo share site with great social functions, A video site etc etc..otherwise you will miss out on customers like myself
What drew me to ES was the beautiful way the albums were uploaded. displayed, the per album Geolocation AND the per image Geolocation plus the Extended photo details (road map 1.40) and Labelling system (roap map 1.60) ....If all this happens I will be in heaven at last. The fact that I can then tie into EasyBlog, Kommento and maybe drop K2 is even better.
I'm not expecting an all singing and dancing galley however with a bit of content tagging (categoristion) , image search etc you are already nearly there
Anyway, going back to the view thing I managed to copy the the existing controller, view, model etc for 'albums' and call 'allalbums' last night. Is there an easy way to modify this from "User logged in" IE My Albums to All albums?
Regards,
Dave
