As the title suggests, I have hit a problem with an error being thrown when trying to access the admin profile page in easysocial. I am logged in as admin.

This error "seemed to start" after I changed the details of the user from Drone Pilot to my name. I also changed the permatag from dronepilot to davidcollerton. Thereafter, I get this error - see attached - whenever I try to access admin profile.

The only other thing that has been done recently is to update joomla to the latest version. I mention this in case it has a bearing on the problem but I suggest not as I am able to access the other profile I created as a test. That profile was created at the same time as the admin profile, i.e. when easysocial was first installed.

Be grateful fr some help in solving this problem.

David
Hey David,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Is it possible for you to edit your post above and include the FTP access so that I can troubleshoot this for you?

Hey David,

It seems like this error is actually caused by the video that you have just shared. Can I have the url to the video please so that I can test this locally?

Ah.. It's a Wistia hosted video. I'll look up the url but yes, now you mention it, I have only just added that video.

Hi David,

There might be some issue where EasySocial are not able to get full content from the video url sharing that you shared hence causing the error above. Keep us updated with the video url that are having the issue so that we can test this locally.

Morning Ezrul

The link I embedded was https://terravitae.wistia.com/medias/c3yihhh7to

Wistia is a professional video hosting service for business. There are 4 ways of embedding video and I chose the simplest, just adding the URL as shown above - also see image.

What I really wanted to do was embed the video in-line (this seems to provide more control) using the following code but it doesn't seem to work - I think the code is being stripped from the content in Easysocial.

<script charset="ISO-8859-1" src="//fast.wistia.com/assets/external/E-v1.js" async></script><div class="wistia_embed wistia_async_c3yihhh7to" style="height:388px;width:640px"></div>

Would this be a better way of embedding the video in either Easyblog or Easysocial? I could use either, in fact, Easyblog might be better for me. Would I need to use something like Nomumber Snippets or Jumi to do this or can I tell the editor not to strip the code?

Grateful for your help as always.

Regards
David

EXTRA INFORMATION

I have tried to embed the code above using Nonumber Snippets and I have tried to turn off editor deleting source code - neither have worked. I also tried creating a blog and using the embed video function ie

[embed=videolink]{"video":"https://terravitae.wistia.com/medias/c3yihhh7to","width":"640","height":"388"}[/embed]

This didn't work either!!

However, I have just added the video again in the community area - this time not under superuser, just under a normal registered user, and this has worked OK. The error that I got originally when logged in as admin (what Mark was looking at) appears to have gone - I can view the profile of the user the video is associated with without problem.

The only problem now is that the video has no size controls - it goes full page - which means quality is poor. For this reason i would like to embed the video in the blog as i can then control size. Can you help with this problem?

Kind regards
David

Looks like the video from Wistia is not generating a proper "duration" format As for embedding video links from Wistia, unfortunately it isn't supported in EasyBlog's video embed tool.

Your best bet is to copy the embed codes from Wistia and add it into the editor

I have already logged this issue down into our issue tracker for EasySocial when it comes to dealing with videos from Wistia.

H Mark

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the duration issue seems to have resolved itself. I have been able to use the same Wistia video URL for a different user without problem.

My bigger concern now, and to understand this please read my last reply, is that it is proving impossible to add Wistia hosted videos to Easyblog. I have tried the video embed method without success.

I'm using Wistia as opposed to Vimeo and YouTube for many reason not least the fact that it's a business level video hosting company that doesn't apply copyright or its T&C's to my work and has no branding. I'm amazed that I'm having these problems as I class EasySocial and EasyBlog as equally professional.

Mark, can you at least help me overcome the problem of embedding Wistia hosted videos in EasyBlog using the standard embed video function? That would hugely useful.

Kind regards
David

Hello David,

For this feature request, you might want to add it in our Voices Page here: http://stackideas.com/voices/easyblog . If there are other users that need this to be included in Easyblog, we will add it.

I'll do that Nik.

Where can I find a list of video hosts that you currently support? Vimeo and YouTube are the obvious ones but they have significant limitations. Wistia was one of the few services that I found to overcome these issues in both their free and paid accounts.
