Hi,

i am a former SocialEngine user, this script have a great feature : networks ! a quote from the official website :

Create networks to organize your members based on profile information they have in common.

Networks can be universities, organizations, workplaces, countries, cities, age groups...essentially anything you want. By default, member's network associations are shown on their profile.
The main activity feed can be set to only show items from member's peers in their networks.
Networks can be used to keep groups of members and their content separate from one another.

you can check this post :

http://support.socialengine.com/php/customer/portal/articles/1649382-admin-panel---manage->-networks

The main uses of this feature are :

> auto group people based on fields value (group all people using photoshop for ex)
> show in the stream only the activities of the members of member's network

I think its some thing that can be very usefull for many kinds of communities/social network.

____
SocialEngine is complete social networking script and standalone software. the main inconvenient of this script is perfomance, its really really slow, you need at least a vps! we use it two years with a website then we stop.
Hi Jan!,

Thanks for sharing this with us. I've moved this topic to EasySocial's feature request page

This feature is interesting. Abit like EasySocial' Group but it 'group' the users based on custom fields
Anyway, you might want to add this into our voice page so that when we are compiling the features set for next major release in future, we can then come back to this again

Thanks and have a nice day!

Hi Sam,

Not really in groups but it can be interested also, what i am trying to describe is a global sub-network in a social network website, for example in an international website with people coming from many people a sub networking system which groups automatiquely members by country (or other custom field) and show in the stream only activities from this user network, people will get access to people of their sub network only.
We can imagine this feature for any multi-interests website.

here in voice the automatic groups based on custom field:

@HMED Are you still on Easysocial? We are considering moving one of our projects to SocialEngine. Can you provide some insight of the pros and cons of ES vs SE?

Yes always on ES and hope forever, i really dont advice you using socialengine, i used it for two years and my frst website was simply droping trafic, its too heavy and hard to customize.

Joomla is a great and professional platform, even wordpress is not mature for such type of website (social networks), for me ES is the best but there is jomsocial which looks good too.

update: i just visited the socialengine demo and i can tell you that the interface of front and back end is the same since 5 years

Thanks for sharing this with us HMED, appreciate this very much. By the way, how does the support at SE fair? Is it good too?

For support you must take a support subscription to post support request, dont know if its the same thing today.
If Sideas support here is 10/10 at SE 5 or 6/10.

all that from my personal experience 5 years ago

@HMED Thank you for responding so quickly. WE are basically looking at SE for the groups/network feature. We are looking to build a platform where all activity takes place in separate groups. Similar to Groupsites.com, Wiggio.com and Groupspaces.com. I have only had access to the demo of SE and it seems that the groups aspect is much stronger then ES. As far as performance, we are currently on a VPS but would move to a dedicated server if necessary.

It seems that ES is moving in the direction of building stronger groups/networking systems, but realistically it would take months to evolve these systems. Of course, not everyone needs the features i am looking for. Perhaps an EasySocial Pro version would be the way to go? As far as support goes i have no illusions about that. Stackideas offers the best support. Period.

It should also be noted that a lot of the group features we like are not provided by the stock version of SE, but through a third party plugin (SocialEngineAddons)

You welcome, agree, we have many groups but all without any activity,
SE have lot of 3rd party apps but request more investement.

Maybe you can request specific development for groups from SI team or 3rd party dev !

good luck

Hey, there Mark. ES pro would be a very interesting development. Can you share your current thoughts on this? Perhaps this requires a thread of its own?
