Hi SI Team

This is probably really simple and just me being too complicated but here it goes...
I have had an online user group for a number of years now.
People registered here:
http://finalbug.net/my-profile-here
And got put into the profile type: final BUG Network

These days I have created 2 new groups.
(Testing a third.)
The two new groups are called:

Learn Resolve
Learn FCP X

Are these sub groups of profile type: final BUG Network?

Or in other words when I join them do I get put into final BUG Network as well?

thanks

Paul
This means when a new user registers on the site for that particular profile type, they will be added to these new groups as well.

Hello Mark

Does this mean that a user who joins here:
http://finalbug.net/my-profile-here
Will be added to all active open groups?

In my case

a) profile type: final BUG Network
b) Group "Learn Resolve"
c) Group "Learn FCP X"

thanks

If the new user is registering on the site, yes.

hi Mark

OK pretty much what I thought.
As of now I will effectively have 1 Profiles & 2 Groups

1a) profile type: "final BUG Network" (all people before the intro of two new groups.)
1b) profile type: final BUG Network (before & after the intro of two new groups.)
In my case no body has joined since I set up the two new groups.
2) Group "Learn Resolve"
3) Group "Learn FCP X"

So with my current set up with one original group where all people are register and 2 other groups I can:

a) Post in the stream i.e. profile type: final BUG Network
b) Post in the Group "Learn Resolve"
c) Post in the Group "Learn FCP X"

Please help me with the following.
I am wondering if it makes sense to create a Group that corresponds to final BUG Network profile.
I.e. Create the Group and put every one from the Profile "final BUG Network" in there.
A mother of all groups if you will.
This way I can post for:

Resolve & FCP X user = final BUG Network
Resolve = "Learn Resolve"
FCPX = "Learn FCP X"

Would be grateful for feedback

thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

Based on your explanation, it is a bit complicated. Correct me if I'm wrong, can I assume that initially you want to have all the existing user in final BUG Network also be included in that 2 new groups? If that's the case, we can write a script to migrate all the users in final BUG Network into the new groups. Please advise.

Hi Nik

No that is not how I mean it.
The focus of my site is Non Linear Editing in particular FCPX with some Resolve.

If on the other hand Resolve bring out a new version of their Software then I obviously only want to have this in the Resolve group.
If on the other hand FCPX bring out a new version of their Software then I obviously only want to have this in the FCPX group.

BUT if Sony bring out a new Camera Codec I will post this in the main profile i.e. final BUG Network
Because the Codec will effect people in both the "Learn Resolve" & "Learn FCP X" groups.

Do you understand what I am getting at?

a) I create a third group which is essentially like a window for the profile type "final BUG Network"
b) Is a way of posting to multiple groups*

*assuming that all people who join: "Learn Resolve" & "Learn FCP X" groups get put automatically in the profile type: "final BUG Network"

best

Hi SI Team

Yes I am probably overthinking again.
But I hate building things only to discover that I have made a serious mistake half way through...
Any feed back would be appreciated

thanks

Hello Paul,

Ah, I see. Let me rephrase it again.

For example, you have 1 profile type USERS. All the users in this profile type will be in all the three groups, we call them GROUP A, GROUP Y and GROUP Z.

If Y has released a new version, the news will be posted only in GROUP Y only. Same goes to GROUP Z. But if other than Y and Z has released new version (Example here, S), the news will be posted in GROUP A.

If so, you can let all your users be in all three groups. And you are the one control which news go to which group.

b) Is a way of posting to multiple groups*
- I'm sorry but it is not possible to post in multiple group.
