I'm hosting one website, http://www.pollockpinesexchange.com and have several of your programs installed and configured. I have several other domains pointing to the same website - http://www.placervilleexchange.com, diamondspringsexchange.com....

Each one of these other domains represent a unique city, is it possible to have content shown based on the referring domain? People that entered the http://www.placervilleexchange.com would only see easy social and easy blog content generated by users with the zip code that was associated with placervilleeexchange.com?

Is there configuration options available or would this be considered a custom job?

Please advise.

Regards,

Jim Maroun
Hello Jim,

This is actually a pretty situation because while you can "categorize" your posts by specific category, I am not too sure how Joomla is going to be able to distinguish the site.

What you could do, is to create multiple menu items that probably renders based on the current requested domain but I doubt Joomla actually supports that currently.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your answer. The solution is to allow users to enter their zip code and city, then have each component sort off of this information. I know it's doable and there's several different ways to get it done.

Hello Jim,

If that is possible, perhaps you could create several menu which links to the appropriate categories and then configure the site to only render the necessary menu accordingly.

It's possible, but would have to be coded into each component. While I'm very familiar with coding I'm not a coder and would have to hire someone to make this work. Given the site is brand new and I'm just starting to promote it, the dollars aren't there for me to make this investment at this point.

Basically all components would have to have the ability to search and display data based on zip code and city. A new module or plugging would be necessary to obtain the referring domain - a list of my domains - assign it to a zip code and city variable so that all information be rendered on the site is relevant to that area.

An alternative solution would be when users log in, based off of their zip code and city in there profile, render only information related to that area.

I get to a certain point in the coding process and my brain shuts down otherwise I would code it myself

Cheers

Jim

Hm yeah, it's a tricky situation because it's not going to be possible out of the box to map by location. As you also need to query to a specific api service to determine the person's location

True, however, I'm only focused on one county with a dozen or so cities. I can create a switch function that takes the url they used and assign a corresponding zip code to it. This way whatever city name they typed in, the site would only display content from that city.
Luckily there aren't too many zip codes in the county I live in. This part of the coding I could handle. It's accessing the proper modules and creating the sql that are currently above my head.

Now if the service were to take off and other locations were interested then the API solution would be required.

I see, it's not actually possible out of the box but we do provide custom services and you could get in touch with us at https://crm.stackideas.com/contact should you have some budget to spend customizing this service.
