Hello Support

I have a problem with my pop up window work flow for playing videos on the Site.

I am using a thing called. Image Manager Extended.

http://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/plugins/image-manager-extended

The idea is that I upload two images that act as a preview for a you tube video.

The first image just sits there and does nothing. The second appears when you roll over the image with the mouse. You ca see how this works by going here for example.

http://finalbug.net/bruce-blog

Mouse over the first image and you should see a cow! The mouse over works for me. i.e. I see the second image with cow. But when I click on the image nothing happens. I have every thing set up correctly. I can test this on an older post where I know for a fact that this used to work. eg all posts before and including that from Thursday, 27 February 2014. What should be happening is that a window pops up to play the video.

If I go here or here:
http://finalbug.net/blog/entry/375-tools-for-petabytes
http://finalbug.net/blog/entry/374-past-is-present-ken-burns

I can roll over the images and I see a little hand! When I click on the image a new tab opens and I can play the video. What should be happening is that a window pops up to play the video.

Please advise what is going wrong. I have the feeling that this breaks again and again. It would be cool to get it fixed once and for all.

thanks

Paul
ps the above applies to firefox
In Chrome when I click on the image on the home blog page the video opens in a new tab!
But still no sign of a pop up

Hello Paul,

For this page which the image is unclickable is because you have turn on the truncate content on frontpage. http://screencast.com/t/VWkjtYAfn . So the content will truncate the content and only include introtext. Hope this helps clarify the situation.

Hi Nik

In a way you are right. Doing as you suggested does mean that it is technically possible to hover over the image on the main blog page. Click it and get the video to open in a new tab. there are however 2 problems with this:

A) It means that the Blog posts are not truncated and I get a long list of posts with many images that take for ever to load!
B) The pop up still does not work!

I had 2 long posts here with Adelene who is no longer there! Maybe these help?

Hello Paul,

The truncate issue, I can quick hack it for you if you want. As for the popup, may I know what its look like? Because I've tested in Firefox, when I clicked on the picture, it opens new window and play the video. Please advise.

Hi Nick

It works like this.

Load Blog front page or an individual blog post!
Roll over image, see cow and mouse should change shape to a hand.

a) You should remain on the same page.
b) A window pops up with the linked video displayed in it
c) The video should play as it has an auto play function set up!

See the screen shot for an earlier version of this!

The videos are all linked back to this here:

http://www.youtube.com/user/finalbugbruce

Is it possible to fix this in such a way that it does not break again. It is just that it is a really complex work flow and has broken for the third time now. I hope you understand.
thanks

Paul

ps to compare how it looks now with the screen shot go to this post here:

http://finalbug.net/blog/entry/302-pixelmator-2-2-skitch-photoshop-alternatives

pps at one point it even worked on the video wall on the home page

Hi Sam

I´ve just noticed something, kind of related.

Is there any reason why the pop up work flow should not work here?

http://finalbug.net/videos

I know it used to work at some point. I have checked the JCE plugin box and the menu looks selected to me!

thanks

Hello Paul Murray,

Sorry for late reply to this,
I have checked in your site, it seems like the JCE media box only control the single entry page inside the image pop-up the video -> http://screencast.com/t/eDg8hyEcNYm
If click on your blog entry link from Easyblog frontpage, all is point to blog post -> http://screencast.com/t/v4ojjM2V

Did you remember how before it work?

Hi Arlex

I can remember how it worked on the Site but have no idea how it worked technically!

The videos on the video wall definitely went to the pop up work flow.

And I suspect that the slides on the slide show (have activated) at the top of the Blog page worked but I am no longer sure.

As of now if you hover over a slide I see the cow but can not click.

I also switched on "EasyBlog Most Popular Post " module on the right hand side. Here the mouse over works but takes you to the article not the video. I only found the popular post module recently so I do not believe that this ever popped!

But lets take this step by step.

1) To have the pop up video work flow working on the Blog is very cool.
(It used to take for ever to load pages with up to 10 embedded you tube videos)

2) To have the video work flow working on the video page would be seriously cool.
The videos are linked to you Tube channels and I want people to be able to hover and jump to a channel!!!

With respect to 3&4 they would be nice to have but I can live with out them as well.

I will think about this over the weekend and if I can dig anything up I will do so.

thanks

Paul
