Hello Support

Maybe this has been covered before. If so my apologies. But I am wondering about 2 things.

1) On the following page:

http://finalbug.net/community

I have all that ES stuff on the left hand side. And it is integrated into ES :-)

2) On the following page:

I have all this standard Joomla Module stuff on the left hand side.

a) Would it not be a good idea (maybe it is already planned!?!) to have the ES stuff too the left of the EB page. Ditto Easy Discuss (not using this yet ;-)

b) Would it not be a good idea (pretty sure that this has been requested by others) to have a universal EB/ES/ED menu some where.

Please see my rather sloppy but I hope somewhat clear screen shot for an example of EB/ES integration :-o

Am very curious to hear what you guys say. Mark ;-)?

best

Paul
Oh no, it's really a very simple answer to the above and there's no boxes involved here. What I meant was that your JOOMLA TEMPLATE should be responsible of how the layout looks like. We are able to add a sidebar on EasySocial because we control the extension output area. If the sidebar was converted into a module, it's the same as designing your template to have a sidebar

For anyone else reading this here is a link to a suggestion that pretty much covers this in the voices section:

Hello Paul,

We can't actually achieve this because you have tons of different Joomla templates and there's really no way to actually ensure that our module is used instead. Everything that you have pointed out in your screen shot is DO-ABLE but if it is done, it is only applicable for your specific site. The same styles, cannot be reused on other templates because others might use a different Joomla template.

Well, cant you do the same with the Sidebar, which you did with the toolbar for ES? allow people to disable in backend and offer it in module form?

Hi Mark

DO ABLE sounds good.

Just double checking.
A hybrid mix between ES and EB would be possible as in the screen shot above. Need to talk to template people about this. Yeah?
The menu up top would be one single menu for EB and ES? Need to talk to template people about this. Yeah?

thanks

Paul

well with css you can do something along the lines of the tweaks below to the ES toolbar module to attach it to the top. Note: those tweaks are just off of the top of my head, and you likely will have to adjust them to work with your template. Apply them to a module position near the top that you want to dedicate solely to your toolbar:

position: fixed;
top: 0px;
width: 100%;
z-index: 9999;
left: 0px;

If you log on enriqueciendo.com you can see how I setup two different toolbars and made them into one and gave them a fixed position purely with css. (if you dont log in, you do not see the ES toolbar)

Hello Jannik,

You can't convert the sidebar into module because in order for you to be able to generate a sidebar like this, you need to have control over the entire output. We can do this within our own extension because we have control over the right area and the left area. Basically your Joomla template needs to support this.

Hi Janik

Thanks for the suggestion. I think that I kind of understand what Mark is saying.

The way I understand Joomla is that it has a lot to do with boxes inside boxes.

Which kind of ties in with Mark is saying:

You can't convert the sidebar into module because in order for you to be able to generate a sidebar like this, you need to have control over the entire output. We can do this within our own extension because we have control over the right area and the left area.

@ Mark (Hi Mark)

Am I getting this right. EB, ES and ED are all in their own box. To have a single menu for them would technically only be possible if you put them all in a box. Like the "Easy Big fat Box" The copyright is mine

Mark you gave me some good advice before about thinking out of the box with respect to Community Builder pointing out to me that the side bar was very powerful with all kinds of hidden PHP possibilities. Gulp. Can not believe that I just said that. My guess is that either we wait for the "Easy Big fat Box" or cobble together the best menu system we can under the circumstances and try and do as much as possible within the existing Easy Boxes universe…

within our own extension because we have control over the right area and the left area. Basically your Joomla template needs to support this.

Is the above documented here some where? i.e. control over left and right area.

Do you happen to know of any templates that would support the pick and mix approach to ES, ED & EB left/right formatting out of the box. Sorry about the lame word games. I know the question is still not 100% right but I think, I am making progress?
