Hi All,

I am using Easy Blog 5.018 and I need to create a blog template similar to the Template For News.
I cannot seem to see how to do this or find a tutorial on how to do it.

My client wants a number of fields to be completed in his blog as it is specific to one subject so I need to add the custom fields and the upload a PDF button and then save that as a template and set it to be the only template that is used on the blog. Registered visitors will complete the fields and then submit the post.

Your website says this:

"Customized Post Templates

Each one of us are unique, just like the EasyBlog composer. Create your own personal post template to suit your authoring style."

Is there a tutorial on how to do this or can someone help please. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Kerry
Hi Kerry,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply as it weekends for all of us here. I've created the template as requested and it should look like the screenshot here, http://screencast.com/t/nCQuVQpZWyHH . If you find out that the template layout does not suits you need you can always re-adjust it and then re-save the template by clicking the button from my screenshot here, http://screencast.com/t/F3qGK3QnL .

The blog will have only one template, by default, that will appear when a new post is started (there can be no option to choose another template).

I have set this up by disabling all of other post templates from your backend > easyblog > posts > templates.

Hope these help.

Hey Kerry,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Firstly, I would suggest that you update to 5.0.19 first The composing templates are purely for "editing" and you can refer to the guide at http://stackideas.com/docs/easyblog/administrators/how-tos/how-to-save-edit-delete-post-templates

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the quick reply which I really did not expect as it is a weekend. I only purchased the Easy Blog program yesterday and it is version 5.0.19 for Joomla 3.0

I took a look at the documentation for Easy Blog as you suggested but unfortunately it seems to be more an overview than detailed instruction (I am sure it’s clear to a lot of people, just not me).

I imagine what I want to do is a 10 minute job for someone who knows their way around your program but I am struggling with it at the moment. I am on a tight time frame for this and don’t really have the luxury of going through the learning curve.

Here is what I want to achieve:

Only a register user on the site can complete (start) a post. I think I have that covered, maybe.

The blog will have only one template, by default, that will appear when a new post is started (there can be no option to choose another template).

The only block that needs to be on the template will be the file upload block so that the author can upload a PDF (perhaps more than 1) and the PDF will be visible to all visitors to the website. I assume that there is a link visible and when clicked the PDF will open in a pop up or another tab.

There needs to be only 5 custom fields on the template at this time. 1 text box and 4 text areas.

I had a look at the custom fields section and that seems perfect as the custom fields have a short description within the field (I assume they are greyed out and when the author types in that field the grey description disappears). It also seems that a slightly longer tool tip can be shown to make the requirement more precise.

All posts have to be approved by the site admin before they become visible on the site. Pretty sure I figured that part out. And that is all that is required.

Before I purchased your program I looked through your website and Easy Blog had everything I needed, particularly the custom fields (with tool tips) and the ability to upload PDF document(s). I think you have a great program, something that Joomla has need for some time but the documentation seems to be short on detail instructions, to me at least. Detailed video tutorials only have to be made once and can be of significant help to us mere mortals, and would ensure your program stays at the top of the pecking order for Joomla blogs component.

As I said earlier I am on a tight time frame and would be happy to pay for someone, or a member of your support team to get this done for me. While the client is not pressuring me to get this finished I would like to have it concluded as quickly as possible.

Can anyone help me at a reasonable cost?

Regards
Kerry

Hey Kerry,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Please find my response to your inquiries below:

Yes, this can be achieved by configuring the ACL at the back end of EasyBlog. You should set the permissions for the "Registered Group" to be able to write a new post but not publish a post. Because if every registered users are allowed to publish posts, you'll most likely end up with tons of spams from users who tries to register on the site.

I can help you set this up but I would need the back end and FTP access.

You only need to create these 5 custom fields, and assign these 5 custom fields into a custom field group. Then, for each of the categories that you create on the site, associate the custom field group with the category.

Take a look at my first response above

Noted, and we're still working on our documentation as we speak. Our priority is to always assist customers first since we have just released EasyBlog 5 about exactly a month ago.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mark,

How do I get the login and site info to you without it being posted on the forum.

Kind Regards

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your help with this. I am attaching an image of what the layout needs to look like. There are just 5 custom fields and the Upload PDF block. I have also included the site details as requested. If you have any questions please let me know.

Kind Regards

Kerry
