Hi folks,

Some photos are missing from EasySocial posts. The space where the photo should be is there... but no photo! This doesn't happen to all photos, just some. Any ideas?

We're now in full production mode with hundreds of users signing up... so far, things are going really well. Thank you for your excellent support.

James

p.s. When I try to "view original" photo, I get the following 404 error: "The requested URL /media/com_easysocial/photos/78/120/the-ukulele-way-open-600_original.png was not found on this server." When I try to find the folder in my cPanel, the folder is simply missing. No sign of it at all.
Hi James,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Have you applied the fix from this thread http://stackideas.com/forums/lost-all-easysocial-photos ? If not, you can give it a try. That fix it to prevent wrong folders / image files being removed when you attempt to remove the broken images.

Anyway, regarding the cover photo update, I cannot replicate this issue from your site. I login as guest admin and updated the cover photo.

http://screencast.com/t/zEO0nn3e7Ad

Can you tell me how to replicate your issue? Or is this issue happen only to your account? If yes, then can you pass me your account and also your ftp account so that I can investigate further on your issue?

Please advise.

Hope this help and have a nice day

Now cover photos are missing. This is starting to remind me of this thread:

http://stackideas.com/forums/lost-all-easysocial-photos

I'm performing backups now but I don't think I'll save the missing photos. Help; this is making me nervous about the stability of the site!

Thank you,

James

Oh, dear! I hope you feel better soon.

No, I'm not running on Amazon S3. Do you recommend it? I also discovered that I cannot even replace the missing cover photos from the front end. When I upload a new photo I get nothing (see screenshot... that's what it looks like after I try to upload a new photo to replace a missing photo).

Get well,

James

Hi guys,

Sorry to bug you but the "disappearing photos" is an issue again. We migrated to a new host today and the site is currently offline while we wait for the DNS to propagate. It's the perfect time to investigate this issue.

If you log in with the credentials I've provided you'll see that many (if not all) the photos in the "Everyone" stream are gone. They were showing up following the migration but have disappeared in the last few minutes.

Last week I installed the fix from this thread http://stackideas.com/forums/lost-all-easysocial-photos

Help, please!

James

I followed the path of one of the missing photos in cPanel (media/com_easysocial/photos/245/433) and the directory is empty. We recently migrated to a new host but I could swear those photos were there when we migrated! I'm going to check the old server to see if they have a copy of the missing photo directories.

Any ideas?

Not all photos are gone. Here's a user's photo album page; as you can see 3 out of 4 of his cover photos are missing, one remains. Strange...

I truly, truly appreciate any help on this.

Thank you,

James

Hi James,

Regarding your issue, I've checked your database and it seems the data for your photos are correct. Can you try again by copy the photos from your old server into your new server and see if everything working correctly? Anyway, i tried to check the photos file using the file manager component the OSE fileman and extplorer but both components seem not working from your backend ;(

Please advise.

Ok, which folders do I need to copy over? Is it just public_html/media/com_easysocial/photos?

Thank you,

James

Ok, we copied the folder from the old server. But sadly the photos aren't there, either. They're gone for good. This issue makes me nervous. It seems random and my users will loose faith in my website if their photos keep disappearing. I will monitor this very closely and keep you up to date.

Thanks,

James

HI James,

Ok, which folders do I need to copy over? Is it just public_html/media/com_easysocial/photos?

Yes, you will need to copy the folders 'public_html/media/com_easysocial/photos' and 'public_html/media/com_easysocial/avatars'

Ok, we copied the folder from the old server. But sadly the photos aren't there, either.

Em, do you mean even from the old server, these photos already missing?

I will monitor this very closely and keep you up to date.

Sure, do let me know how it is going. Im curious to find out too what causing these photos to be missing.

Have a nice day

Correct. The photos were already missing on the old server. This has happened before (which is why I posted this topic initially). I'm going to back up the photos and avatar folders every day, but it's a real concern because it's so unpredictable.

Thank you,

James

Hi James,

Thanks for the heads up. I will keep my eyes on this matter too. I will see if anyone else reported the same issue or not. Your issue is rather unique because your user did not perform any photo delete but the photo went missing ;(

Thanks again and have a nice day.
