If that's the case, unfortunately currently there's no way for the error to remain on screen.

Hm, to be honest there is no better way that we could think of to display the error messages within the field itself. The main reason is because if a form has 10 fields and 5 of them has errors, displaying these errors at the top of the page would be pretty difficult for the users to decipher, since they would then need to find where the errors are.
