One of the things that JS added recently that is SUPER helpful is a little tiny module that can be placed anywhere that shows the notifications boxed for new friend requests, new messages and activity stream notifications. I place this in the header of my site so that users have access no matter where they are in the site. I would LOVE to have something like this for EasySocial, especially if it had the option to include EasyDiscuss and EasyBlog activity in the notification stream. Ideally it would be just some small icons that sported a little red number when there were new items to look at. Each should have a drop down or pop-up list of the items, similar to how notifications work now.
I a curious if there is a way to have some sort of pop up notification when there is a new message or other notification? I have users used to such a setup in VBulliten and the like. The little notification bubbles are really not as noticeable as we would like. I know that it is probably derived from Facebook and smart phone notices, but I have a lot of older members who do not use either! Seriously.

It should be configurable, as some folks don't like pop ups at all.

Any possible suggestions on such a feature?

Hello Gary,

Do you mean that when there's a new notification, it pops up a new window?

Yes. When using forums based on VBulliten, when you have a private message, when you log in, there is a little pop up window that asks if you want to review your messages. Quite handy for some of our old school members.

Alternatively, if the notification indicator was just a bit more prominent

Thanks. The software is pretty amazing - almost overkill for my site, but I like both the messaging as well as the photo gallery features.

Hello Garry,

Hm, not to mean any disrespect but that's pretty old school and if you ask me, that's taking a move backward rather than forward :x Also, these days browsers are configured to "prevent popups" and that could also be an issue with such popups

No disrespect assumed I trust you noticed the concern came from our old school members

The issue is that we have a lot of folks who are not Facebookers, so the paradigm is rather unfamiliar. One suggestion would be to allow users (or at least admins) set a name such as "private message" instead of the default of "conversations". Not everything old school is in need of change.

Thank you for the reply.

Thanks for the heads up on this Gary. We'll see what we can do about this but to be honest, I don't think this would be a priority right now because I personally would feel that majority of the users would prefer a more modern notification dialog as opposed to a popup.

By the way, popups are also risky in the sense where the browser might block it from loading
