I tried EasyDiscuss in 2014 and migrated messages from VBulletin but ended back at Kunena (I can't remember why).

Yesterday, I installed the current version of EasyDiscuss and started to do the migration again -- but this time from Kunena to EasyDiscuss. The migration is running very slow. After running the migration for ~24 hours I'm only up to Kunena item # 130,000 out of ~800,000 messages. FYI, we have a fairly quick dedicated server with 12 GB RAM and SSD drives.

I had exactly the same problem back in 2014 migrating from VBulletin as per the following message:

https://stackideas.com/forums/vbulletin-migration-number-of-posts

Mark edited two files which are still attached to that prior message which made the migration fast.

Is it possible that Mark could do the same for migrating from Kunena as he did for me to migrate from VBulletin?

Thank you. -- Rik

PS: I'd give those prior 2 files that Mark edited a try but in 2.5 years I imagine there might have been some changes and they might not work for Kunena, anyway.
Hey Rik,

I already compare the files, all these fix should be included in the latest version of Easydiscuss.

But we can modify the php file to increase how many post migrate per time, so it would be migrate more faster.

May i know you already migrated half way or do you need us to help you re-migrate again from your travel website?

if yes, can you do the full backup on your site, then I will run a few query to remove all of your existing migrated post then remigrate again?

And one more thing I would like to confirm with you, is it all of your existing post is migrated from vbulletin? Is it can remove all migrated post from your Easydiscuss?

Arlex:

vBulletin had separate non-travel messages that we deleted over a year ago. vBulletin is no longer on our server at all -- just the Kunena forums.

So, yes, please remigrate Kunena starting over from the beginning. I've backed up everything. In fact, you can do whatever you wish in this respect as I hadn't even started changing any settings from the defaults. You can totally re-install EasyDiscuss if that is easier.

Thank you. -- Rik

Oh, sorry for misunderstand in earlier, it seems like when I trying to modify one of your FTP files, i do not have permission to save it, this is what i hitting now :

Command: STOR kunena.php
Response: 550 kunena.php: Permission denied
Error: Critical file transfer error

Can you assign your current FTP user account to have all the read/write/execute permission?

Arlex:

I've run a script which should change permissions throughout the site. If that still doesn't work, I can totally uninstall EasyDiscuss including the database tables, do a new install, and update the installation with the new files for the migration.

So if FTP still isn't working for you, please email the files to me (or attach them to your reply) and advise in which directory each resides and I'll place them accordingly. I should be able to do that all on my own.

Thanks. -- Rik

Thanks Rik, I can able to modify the file from your FTP user account now, and I still working on the migration since your Kunena post too many already, it need time to migrate it.

I will keep you update regarding this.

I have temporary increased your session setting to 99999 from backend > global configuration for this migration.

Arlex:

It is around midnight your time. The jos_discuss_posts table only shows about 45,000 rows so far which is after running several hours from your end. That still isn't very fast and it will likely take many days to complete.

Since I wasn't able to see anything from my end, I restarted mysql (to end the current migration) and restarted the migration from my side. So please just leave it alone for now. I'll go ahead and let it run (even if it takes several days) and let you know when it is done or if there is some other problem.

Thanks. -- Rik

Hey Rik,

Yes, actually i leave my laptop in our office let it run at the midnight until morning, but when I come in office and check it, it seems like it show this following error :

Error displaying the error page:
Could not connect to MySQL.: SQL=SELECT `id` FROM `#__discuss_posts` WHERE `alias`='re-maple-syrup-in-europe-12' AND `id`!=''

it would probably you restarted your mysql from your server at yesterday, are you still migrating now?

Yes, I'm still migrating. It isn't fast but I guess that I'll just let it go at its own pace. I'll let you know if I run into any other problem or when it is complete.

Thanks again. -- Rik

I was about ready to uninstall Kunena as all of our Kunena posts were migrated. But now I've noticed a problem with the migration:

When I look at "My Posts" it shows as 253,000+ replies for me. Essentially, the system has made me the "last replier" to most of the message threads on our system. If you look at most any message thread (but not all) my name replaces whomever was the original poster.

Any ideas what to do?

Thanks. -- Rik

Hey Rik,

For some reason I was unable to access your forum page in frontpage, perhaps you can provide us following details so I can better have a check?

1. provide us your user account which having this issue ("My Posts" it shows as 253,000+ replies for me)
2. or send me your profile page URL from your site
3. provide us some of the screenshot which didn't show properly for the last replier.

Arlex:

Sorry, I've been away sick for a while.

I've added the EasyDiscuss "Top Members" module to this page.

You will see the user d2014y for which you have the admin login details. It has the same problem. It shows 39,249 replies although I'm sure you didn't make those replies. They are simply old replies from prior users -- most likely ones no longer in our system and thus are "guests".

You can click on those to see all the misattributed replies for that user account.

Thanks. -- Rik

Hello Rik,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is actually a public day off for us here. I tried running a query on the site and it seems like the user id 11259 (which is the username d2014y) does actually have 39249 posts.

This is one instance of the post that has d2014y as the replier, http://www.travel.com/en/community/forums/index/st-martin . Is this the correct migrated data?

I need to wait for Arlex to get back to work as he is currently on his vacation (Chinese Lunar New Year) to get confirmation with him as to what was done / migrated on the site.

Thanks for taking a look at this. And, Happy New Year!

The migrated data is wrong since the user (d2014y) is an account I setup for StackIdeas and I'm sure that you guys haven't been writing all of those replies.

As far as I can tell, the posts with the wrong username appear to be attributed to those with administrator privileges such as your account or mine with the 253,000+ replies. I'm guessing that those replies are probably from people no longer on the system and probably should have still used their names (as a guest) but something got mixed up. Just a guess....

Look forward to hearing more. Thanks. -- Rik

hey Rik,

I'm sorry for the delay of this reply, I just came back from hometown.

It seems like you pointed to the correct direction for those guest user reply will converted to the current login user id.

I already found out which part causing this issue, which mean that you have to remigrate from your Kunena post into Easydiscuss again.

May i know is it all the migrated post all migrated from Kunena? If yes, you have to truncate all the migrated post from Easydiscuss then remigrate again.

This is what my suggestion :
1. uninstall Easydiscuss
2. drop all the Easydiscuss table from your database -> #__discuss_xx
3. Install back Easydiscuss from your site
4. Download my attached file and replace into JoomlaFolder/administrator/components/com_easydiscuss/includes/migrator/adapters/kunena.php
5. Then only start migrate.
