My users are having problems finding their media. Is there a way to just have a folder for each user (with user's name not number) where all their media goes rather than separate ones for each article etc.
Hey Kirsten,

Hm, it's strange because most authors prefer having images stored in each article folder as it would make management of their media more manage-able. Anyway, EasyBlog does allow authors to have their own media folder, they just need to click on the "My Media" folder, http://take.ms/kxtDu

Yes that's fine when using the Media option but if you want to edit an image or add one using the main file browser the folder names are completely different.
My Media corresponds to an actual sub-folder within easyBlog_images based, on I assume, the user ID. Finding the correct folder can be quite challenging. You may be able to manage with just the Media option for most things but if you want to upload and link to a pdf file that there is no way to do that other than to use the link option in the editor and then the file browser. This is quite a common occurrence for my users. It wouldn't be too bad if there was a way of replacing the ID with the actual user name. Another option would be to be able to just create a link from media content.

Hey Kirsten,

I personally think it is a very bad idea to use username as the folder name in terms of account security. It is almost like giving a hint to a hacker who wants to hack their account as they only now need to guess the password.

With the use of the ID, the hacker would need to be able to guess both their username and password.

My problem is working out where anything is when you use the file browser. This is currently the only way to insert a link in a post as far as I can see. Unless you save your documents in the shared folder you will need to know your ID in order to find your document to link to. Is there a way to just create a link to a pdf document using the media option?

Hey Kirsten,

I am sorry that i am not quite understand what you mean by Is there a way to just create a link to a pdf document using the media option?

Do you mean when the user upload pdf file through Easyblog media manager, then the user would like to insert this pdf file into the blog content but user want to create a custom link for this pdf file?

Looking forward of your response.

Yes when I user uploads a pdf file via the media manager they do not want to insert it as an object but just create a plain html hyperlink to it.

The only option I seem to have is inserting the pdf
[pdf]{"uri":"shared/documents/Help---Blogging-v2.pdf","height":"400"}[/pdf]

I want to add a link to it like this
Open pdf

<a href="/images/easyblog_shared/documents/Help---Blogging-v2.pdf" target="_blank">Open pdf</a>

Hey Kirsten,

Ah I see. I get what you mean now. Instead of using the file / pdf block, you would want to hyperlink a text which links to the file, is that right? What if we added a "permalink" on the media manager? This way, you could just copy the permalink in the media manager and insert a link on the text that you have selected?

I can't see it in the latest test version of 5.2. Am I missing something?

This thing is not include in the current alpha version yet, but this will be added in next beta version.

So it will show the file location path when you click on that PDF file on the media manager, you can check my attached screenshot below.

Hi, I have just installed the beta version and although I see the file location path there is no way of inserting that as a link rather than having the pdf rendered in the post. I thought I would get the option of either having the pdf rendered or inserting a link to it. Was that not your intension? Just seing the path to it isn't really helpful :-(

I just noticed you have now added the option to link to another blog post which is GREAT. It would be really useful if we coukld link to a pdf document in the same way.

Hm, we thought you were already agreed like what my colleague suggested in his previous reply here https://stackideas.com/forums/media-locations#reply-397827 , so you can copy that file location from the media manager then manually make a permalink in the blog content.

I will discuss with our developer regarding this again and see if we can do something about this in next version.

I'm sorry. I must have misunderstood what you meant. I had hoped that there would be an option to insert as a link.

I have tried copying the 'permalink' but it won’t let me. The field is disabled so can't copy the content.
