Hi there,

Ive been thinking it would be great if we could make it so that members Group posts dont have to show on their personal stream,( and maybe even the community stream) Its for my sites own security reasons.

Do you think this will ever be possible?

Cheers
Katie
If the group is closed/invite only, then it most certainly should not display on your profile. Is this the security issue you are talking about? Or does this apply to public groups too?

I would actually like it on public groups too.

Well since Im making a dating site, Ive made it possible that posts in a persons profile cant be commented on because I dont want people to know whose friends with who, whose commenting on whose personal profile alot. Im just avoiding member jealousy etc.

For the Groups tho, since its a public forum, Im going to let people comment (Or at least I put in a feature request for the groups to be commentable, but not the personal stream)

So this is the reason why I dont want group posts going to a personal profile.... I just want the groups to be separate from the personal profiles. Also what if a person joins a group, that they dont want to publicize it on their profile (since the profile is like an advertisement of themselves)

Hello Katie,

We actually display them on the stream for the purpose of ensuring your site is active all the time. This only applies if your group is public. If your group is not public, the stream will not appear on the dashboard. If the concentration is on the groups, then your dashboard stream would be pretty quiet and it would look boring

Katie, I've got a big idea that would not only fix this issue but would make EasySocial incredibly flexible! Once ES 1.2 is released I can publish it. Not saying it's going to make it in, but boy would it create a lot of flexibility with news feeds if it is considered. I know too many options is something ES is trying to avoid. This idea would put the power into the admins without creating too many options!

Ooohaaa intrrrrigued!

Sounds very interesting Josh! Is this an extension your making? Cant wait!!!

I have to admit Im sortof on the fence about what I want to do at the moment. I think it would be great if whatever is in a profile page cant be commented on, but whatever is in groups can be commented on. But since they overlap, its abit complicated :P

Anyway, Cant wait to see what your making!

It's not an extension. A little hard to compete with EasySocial.

Rather it's a grand proposal. I plan on making it nicely detailed so people know exactly what I have in mind. It would include screen shots. I am not good with scripting (yet) but I do come up with fun ideas that I believe would benefit the entire community. The idea if implemented to it's fullest extent may allow us to overcome the issue of allowing general comments on profiles but not groups. I'll throw you a teaser, the idea is to be a news feed manager. The theory is to allow the admin to define filters, appfilters, hashtag filters, ect. But there is more to it. It shall be logically placed and simple to use.
